Darna........Bizarre Hai !!!!

I am a big fan of Ram Gopal Varma. The last film that I saw was ‘ Bhoot ‘ which I thought was a major disappointment ( See my review if you have time ) . So I went to watch ‘Darna Mana Hai ‘ in a cautious mood , not expecting much ..

The film is about 7 friends who are back from Goa and are on their way home when their car breaks down in the middle of the forest. To kill time till helps arrives they decides to tell each other some stories ..so far so good..But once they start telling the stories you begin to realize that their stories are actually bizarre ones with absolutely no logic or sense..But hey , no complaining !! They never told us that they will be telling ‘True’ stories..!! Even though the stories are bizarre they make for interesting viewing with lots of twists and turns..As the film progresses you begin to realise that there is a killer lurking amongst them whose identity is revealed in the end… Now here lies the biggest flaw of the film-Who is this killer? What is he doing in the middle of the jungle dead at night ? Why does he kill people ? The answers to all these questions are never answered..    Of course , an attempt is made to make some sense of his actions but it is as bizarre an explanation as you can get …

The film boast of a huge star cast from Sohail Khan ( must be thanking his stars ! ) to the current heartthrob Vivek Oberoi . But they are doing most of a guest appearance here than anything else , so don’t expect to see them throughout the film…As the promos of the film shows there are 6 stories in the film but the most interesting , though equally bizarre , is the one featuring Vivek Oberoi and Nana Patekar ..

The film is very sleek in it’s presentation and it’s been a good debut by the one time assistant of Ramu , Prawaal Raman as the director. There are no songs in the film but the background score by Salim-Sulemein is effective..

All in all it’s a ‘time pass ‘ film which is really ‘ Hatke ‘ !! Go and watch it if you are a fan of Ram Gopal Varma and is in no mood to watch those fluffy romances or   ‘inspired versions ‘ of Hollywood hits …
