Why I preferred Darr @ the mall over Highway? I always prefer horror movies, and I dont like Randeep Hooda especially after Jism2 so Darr @ the mall was the way to go.
Flicks such as Horror story, Phoonk were good and bringing back the memories of past. The old horror movies, which were very scary. Darr @ the mall, I would say has given a good attempt but fails at many area. Still in spite having many glitches in the movie the movie is a one time watch.
Firstly I would say this movie is not for people who have seen Hollywood horror movies, like insidious, conjuring because some scenes are copied from there. Those who havent seen Hollywood horror movies would like this movie. I have seen Insidious so I could relate the scariness and it failed to impress me, but this copying move would certainly help audience who havent seen such scenes before. Even after saying that the movie fails, why am I recommending it? Its because this movie sends a chill down the spine at some moments, and actor Jimmy Shergill is at his best. The cinematography is awesome and the sound tracks too.
Plot: Haunted stories about Asias biggest mall (Amity mall) which is set to re-open, has many people in doubt so the owners themselves decide to spend a night in the mall. Many accidental death have taken place in the mall as high as 9.
Jimmy Shergill (Vishnu Sharma) is an ex-army officer but lends up becoming the chief security officer of the Amity Mall. As soon as Jimmy Shergill takes the charge of the mall, unacceptable things happens and he realizes that stories about the haunted mall was actually true. Unaware of the fact that all the paranormal activities taking place are connected to his past.
Only Jimmy holds the key to stop all the brutality and killings taking place in the mall. Scary children everywhere and many more chilling moment that would give you goosebumps, and this movie at many places succeeds to scares you enough. The climax is a bit of let down, and it could have been better. Actually the climax is ultimately what matter but still thumbs up for the twist and turn of the climax.
If you can look past the basic technical issues and focus on the story, Darr @ the mall is a good movie and a one time watch.
One straight loophole was, Why is Vishnus memory so bad that he cannot recall the most traumatic event that occurred in his life, albeit 30 years ago?
Sound tracks:
Sound track were good enough for a horror movie, and the best out of them were zindagi hai mehngi sharaab. The sound tracks added more essence to the movie and for a horror film sound tracks are an important aspect.
Cast Performance:
I would say the cast performance was decent and it was a splendid job by Jimmy Shergill and hope he makes a wonderful comeback from this movie. Even Asif Basra has done a good acting, enacting as the owner of the haunted mall. Rest all were ok and nothing much to talk about.
Cinematography:
Loved the cinematography in a way that it was different although some scenes were already been seen in Hollywood movies. Those who havent seen Insidious and conjuring can surely watch this film and it would surely impress them. For rest who have seen these Hollywood flick can opt for Highway.
This movie is slightly over 2 hours and at no point would one feel that the movie gets boring and that one of the highlights about this movie. And horror films should be able to glue the audience towards the screen for the entire movie. Thumbs up for taking care of this aspect.
Conclusion:
A good attempt by the maker of Ragini MMS, but still fails to impress at certain points still can be a one time watch and slight over 2 hours this film isnt too stretchy.
