Keep the door shut for this one...

Cast: Aftab Shivdasani, Manisha Koirala, Divya Dutta , Isha Shravani and Snehal Dhabi

Direction: Chekravarthy

Overloaded with lame gags and clumsy slapstick, Darwaza Bandh Rakho has about as much comedy value as a cold in-flight meal. Despite a potentially humorous storyline and accomplished comic actors like Aftab and Chunky on board, Chakravarty’s screenplay is a mish-mash of buffoonery and bad dialogues.

It’s about a group of four down-on-their-luck guys who figure out that the only way they can make big money is by kidnapping the daughter of a richie-rich businessman and demanding a ransom in exchange of her return. And that’s exactly what they do.

Since these guys aren’t professional kidnappers, they’re not exactly smooth at their job. They end up breaking into the home of a Gujarati family with this girl they’ve just kidnapped, and they end up staying here much longer than they’d intended to because the girl’s father has just taken off to America.

With a perfectly respectable cast list and a noted director at the helm, you’d be forgiven for expecting a film that is at least watchable, but Darwaza Bandh Rakho defies all expectation. With a disjointed plot that leaves you bewildered and the absence of any real story or characterisation, the cast are presented with more than a few problems at the outset.

The main problem with DBR is that it tries WAY TOO HARD to make the viewer laugh and just comes across as extremely forced. Comedy is all about timing and about natural. Chakravarty has tried to make a comedy which pokes fun at itself, but fails to tap into the genre correctly and makes a mess out of it. To make matters worse, the screenplay is as unexciting as having a month-old pizza . In fact, the viewer starts squirming after the first fifteen minutes itself.

There are certain sequences which raise laughter likeof pizza delivery boy .But that’s it.Please think carefully before your next movie Mr.Chakravarty.Cinematography is the sole department that stands out in the enterprise. The camerawork is of superior quality. Dialogues are equally lifeless.

There are 35 important characters in the movie and frankly everyone manages to come up with just an average performance. None of them are able to rise above the script and the end result is just about fine.

In the end, DBR is one of the weaker products from RGV in recent years. Those looking for some non-stop fun’ would at maximum manage to have a few smiles in their way but that’s about it. At the box-office, it’s a big disaster!
