Dosas smeared in oil

I wrote the first review (see below) several years ago. I again came to Agra in Aug 2013. Here is my impression of the place now. It seems to be caught in a time wrap. Nothings’ changed in the past 10 years, not even the lampshades. It has stayed where it was, while the world has sped on ahead.

There is another Dasaprakash Restaurant on Fatehabad Road (near Pizza Hut). I do not know if it ia branch or not but that outlet is certainly preferable. It has adequate ambiance, is much cheaper so more value for money and the food is much better. Go there rather than the overpriced outlet at Mehar cinema.

Dasaprakash is a chain of restaurants serving vegetarian South Indian food. They have branches in several cities and maybe abroad. I have visited them in Delhi and Agra (several times since 1993). The concept of the restaurant is good and the decor and ambience is also pleasing. What I couldn’t fathom is the thick layer of oil (they call it desi ghee but I couldn’t make out the difference) on each item (dosas and uttapams mainly). The sambhar is out of the world and has to be relished (served in endless free refills). The service is reasonably efficient but could be better. The idlis are soft and fluffy.

Well worth a visit even if the prices are slightly high for a south Indian veg restaurant.

If the could control the oil amount in the dosa and uttapam, it would be heavenly. The oil overpowers the flavour of everything else.
