Kamal Who? Dasavatharam What?

Shocked!!!!!!!  thats what I was after I watched the movie.

To be honest, Dasavatharam is not even close to being an average Kamal hasan movie.  Pity I had to spend 150 Rs. to find this out.

I think the drawbacks are too many,  so lemme list them down

1.  In the past, kamal’s movies have headed in a specific direction.  Dasavatharam heads in many directions.  Suddenly you find glamour,  suddenly humour,  suddenly terror,  suddenly we see someone fighting against sand pirates,  suddenly  a dose of caste, and loads and loads of aethistic comments.  Agreed that Kamal is multi talented,  but the movie has to go in a single direction.  The movie draws a flack here

  1. Songs are hard to listen to and truly tough to understand why they appear in the movie at all.

3. Asin was not required

  1. If the villian is so brilliant and is going to employ a male translator( CJ bhaskar) why did he hire mallika sherawat in first place ????

5.  Tsunami is surveyed by JJ but the final meeting attended by MK?

  1. The make up is artificial for few of the charecters

7.  Movie is bit too lengthy.  It would have been better if most of the charecters appear in the background or in a scene or two and disappear.  Kamal has tried to give screen space to all the charecters and has successfully( to our misery) dragged the movie

  1. Iam more than 100000% sure that there are very few brahmin gals who call a toilet as "Shouchalayam",  iam sure kamal wanted to make a comparison between Shouchalayam and Alayam( temple),  should I call this perversion or was that supposed to be humour?  Iam no staunch believer of any specific religion and believe in religious freedom,  Such things hurt even a person like me.

  2. I pity himesh reshmiyya, for he has been royaly wasted in this movie

  3. Balram Naidu looks at the virus multiplying using something resembling a binocular!!!(  I laghed and laughed for this scene as against the supposed comedy scenes)

11.  Why does Asin marry( agree to marry) kamal in the End,  is it coz he is a hero or is it coz thats how indian cinema is supposed to end?  This despite the fact that she dislikes kamal for so many reasons

12.  The movie, but for few charecters would have been a documentary,  so many pieces of advice from kamal hasan,  I guess he should preach what he practises and not just utter things on screen and do the exact opposite in real life( who cares abt it)

  1. supposedly the movie was made at the cost of 80 odd crores of Rupees,  the production values are not visible on screen.

  2. Cheap way of selling movies,  Kamal had to take this route to get an audience.  He could have done it without hurtin any religion.  No offence here but , Tough to C kamal take up a religion other than hindus to justify the non-existence of god debate.  I guess, in india, hindus continue to be  soft targets.

There are so many more defects to mention.  just that I cannot recollect them :)

here are few things in favour of the movie

1.  Kamal hasan’s acting.  It still amazes me how a person can emote even after wearing rubber on his face.  I admire kamal for this special skill

  1. The background music rocks

  2. BALRAM NAIDU  steals the show.  First time in my life ive seen a telugu charecter, settled in tamil nadu,  live on screen.  Everything, right from body language,  mannerisms and LANGUAGE rock.

  3. The charectorization of the villian( fletcher), though loosely based on Tom Cruise’s charecter from Collateral,  is fantastic.

End of the movie,  I was tired and was begging to go out.  I managed to come out with a neutral frame of mind, only and only due to the charecter of Balaram Naidu

Movie can be watched once,  theater or otherwise!!!!!!!

PS:  based on few comments I received,  I would like to throw out a disclaimer,  I am not trying to maling any faith in specific,  just interested in challenging the script writer, to have taken up a different faith to run the story( if there was a clear one).  No offence whatsoever!!!!!!!!!!!!
