KARIM`S RESTAURANT: DELHI: A REVIEW

Dear All?.

This is my 13th Review on Mouth Shut?Hope it goes on well?, as 13 number I guess is an unlucky number?.

This review is on one of my favorite categories in Life?FOOD?I am an awesome Foodie?I can go to far flung places to have good quality food?.

The restaurant?s name is KARIM`s?.I am sure all the Delhites must be aware of the name?but for the unintended this is the Best Restaurant in Delhi serving Non-Vegetarian Stuff since 1913 in Delhi. Every Food Guide present on this Planet Earth has voted it every year as the Best Restaurant in Delhi for many years and I vouch for it as well. I am sure you all would also agree.

The original Karim?s Restaurant is situated bang opposite the Historic Jama Masjid in the Walled City area of Delhi. It is very close to a market known as ?Darya Ganj?. You would be surprised to see the Restaurant?s locales and you won?t find it as well if you are not aware of it and you would have to ask others for the exact location. Till 1990?s there were no branches of it but now hey have opened five branches in Nizamuddin, Kailash Colony, Noida, Gurgaon and the latest being Kamla Nagar. But the food quality is miles away from the original one. And I can bet on this.

Now something about the Food Items one can enjoy at Karim?s. I would state this at the starting itself that Karim?s is only for the Non-Vegetarians though it is not an exclusive one but vegetarians?please go to Karim?s at your own risk.

In the starters you can go for Mutton Burra (Succulent pieces of Mutton cooked in the oven), believe me you won?t eat softer pieces of Mutton than here. You can also go for Mutton Raan (Part of Mutton Thigh) though it is a starter meant for four or five people as it?s huge !!!, there are also Seekh Kebabs, Shammi Kebabs and Mutton Tikka. In the Chicken Category there is Chicken Seekh Kebab, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka and some others.

In the Main Course please please go for Mutton Korma, Mutton Stew and Baadaam Pasanda(Boneless Mutton cooked with Yogurt, Almonds and Spices, and you would fall in love with them, also one can go for Chicken Noor Jehan and Chicken Jahangiri, they are also awesome. There are other items as well but these four are just unbeatable.

In the Bread Portion one can have Khamiri Roti (An Indian Bread prepared with Wheat Flour and Yeast), it is very thick and little sweet but is very different from the Normal Tandoori Roti, then there is another option of Keema Paratha (Parantha Stuffed with Minced Mutton). Then there are normal Roomali Roti, Butter Nan and Parantha as well)

Another specialty is the Desserts Category at Karim?s. They serve two main desserts that are just out of this world. They are Kheer Benazir (Dessert prepared with Milk, Broken Rice and Sugar) and Shahi Tukda (Bread prepared with Condensed Milk). Believe me they are the best desserts available, they are just about perfect in terms of the Sweetness and Cooking. Any meal is incomplete if you don?t try out these two desserts. And please let your waiter know about the order of the Shahi Tukda as it takes some time to prepare, just order it with the meal only.

The most exclusive dish at Karim?s is the Tandoori Bakra, it is Full Goat stuffed with Dry Fruits, Basmati Rice, Minced Meat and Special Spices. It costs Rs. 3500 bucks and you have to order one day in advance with 50% payment. I have not tasted it as yet but once I go there with a huge group I would just go for it.

The Service levels of all the Karim?s Restaurants are absolutely brilliant; in spite of the huge crowd the service is very quick.

An average meal for 2 people with Starters, Main Course and Dessert would cost close to Rs.300-400 if you eat at Jama Masjid Karim`s and if you eat at the branches you can comfortably add 40% over that as the prices are higher at the branches.

The Karim`s Jama Masjid do not offer any Valet Parking but the branches do.Credit Cards are not accepted at the Main Branch but the branches accept all credit cards.

Jama Masjid Branch can easily accomodate 100 people, Kailash Colony-20 people, Nizamuddin-60-70, Kamla Nagar-35-40, Gurgaon-40 and Noida I dont know.

I have eaten at many restaurants in Delhi but have not tasted the food like Karim?s. For non-vegetarians it is a must go. I hope they venture out to other cities of India as well and it would be equally popular as it is in Delhi.

So the next time you are planning a Lunch or Dinner just go for Karim?s and I am sure it would be one great experience.

I hope you liked my review and fellow MSians, please rate and comment on the review if I have missed anything on this awesome culinary experience.

Warm Regards,
