Best Hindi Film of 2008

I do’nt think I would be exxagerating with the title here. This year hasn’t been great at movies....Hindi ones may I say.... Also most reviews here have already aptly titled this film.

Even though most reviews have already captured what the essence of the film is, I couldn’t help but review it given that I still haven’t got over from the hangover from one of the most beautifully narrated scripts of this year.

"Post-it note life" - Its something which most of engage in. Living life to all its conformities of meeting deadlines, paying bills, competing at routine workplaces et al. The usual rat race.. dod eat dog mentality which we all hate but have come to accept. The story is (as told earlier) about the last list Amar Kaul prepares before he meets his fateful end.

Beyond just the simplicity and innocence of the character potrayed brillantly by Vinay, Dasvidaniya also talks about the quiet inner quest we all have about just leaving everything and living life with no pretense, about doing that one thing which we all wanted to do as a child and to just break away from the usual boring social norms we live in. So Amar Kaul (Vinay) decided to prepare a 10 things to do b4 I die list that hopefully bring in some colour into his boring life.

Among the 10 things list that he prepares the one I loved the most is the way Vinay tells his childhood love interest Neha about the fact that he still loves her and has been all his life.

Probably this scene epitomies what essentially is the way the story is narrated throughout. It’s kept simple and basic yet engaging. It does have a very cliche and outdated story where could predict the end but I guess you appreciate it cause the way it’s narrated which is quite different and maybe refreshing and real.

Its not SRK leaving his hospital bed holding his heart to run and try solve a problem saying "Maa ab mujhe jana hoga". Amar Kaul(Vinay’s character) ain’t any Raj. He’s not your someone you wanna be like, has many flaws and gets constantly bullied and pushed around and probably that what’s appealing about him.

It’s not the typical bollywood melodrama which is what works for the film. No great cinematography or twisted bollywood dialogues. This one is quite real, believable and fun. It succeeds in celebrating his very basic and simple life.

In a nutshell, its a nice story told even better through brillant actor/s and a now comptent director.
