A touching gudbye

Dasvidaniya has somewhat the same casts as that of  Beja Fry. But if you are expecting a non-stop nonsense joke timepass movie then this is not your cup of tea. But don’t writeit off yet.

What I ment to say is that this movie is something more serious and matured from the former. there is nothin new can be said about this movie, which has been reviewed and rated highly by the critics and the media. some even claimed this to be among top 10 movies of 2008.

The word Dasvidaniya is derived from the Russian word *do svidaniya *which means goodbye. The title explains the plot of the movie. It’s about a man who suddenly discovers he is suffering from Stomach Cancer and he has only 3 months to live.

Though initially he is worried and refuses to accept the fact that he is dying, sooner he snaps out and decides to do the things he wanted to do, but was never able to do in his life. So he prepares a list namely “things to do before I die”. Rest of the movie shows his adventure of fulfilling his wishes on the list. Wikipedia says the plot is similar to that of the Hollywood movie,

The Bucket list. I don’t know how much similarity is there because I haven’t seen the latter. But one thing I can say is that this movie leaves the audience touched and thinking.

When it comes to performance, we cannot expect nothing less than perfection from Vinay Pathak and he has performed really well to keep this reputation. He plays the role of an accountant of insurance company, has no aims in life rather than filling and doing the ’things-to-do’ list of the day.

His boss is a food maniac who can be seen doing nothing in office other than eating. His colleges are lazy and gossips about cricket and chicks. The performance of the supporting actors are also appreciable, especially the actress who plays the mother. The mother is deaf who needs hearing machine to hear anything , she is little out of her head. Watches TV serials all day but is too confused about the buttons on the remote.

Though there are a couple of songs that are good and well executed by Kailash Kher, it could have been made better by a better sound track and background music. The movie may have been made with a view of something closer to reality, but a little more of comedy would have made the film more entertaining and commercially successful. Neha Dhoopiya was disappointment. She has absolutely nothing to do in this film, a small time actress should have been chosen (who is more known for her acting than her glamour) for doing this role. The scenes that claims to be in a foreign country are clearly shot in Studios and the rest are Graphics. But that can be forgiven for a small budget movie which is concentrating on the story and its narration, rather than building a glamour world with no story.

All in all its a nice movie that can be watched as real story, with a message for the audience.
