The makers of that wonderful Dawn dish soap created a new product designed to revolutionize dishwashing. This product promises NO SCRUBBING!
DAWN POWER DISSOLVER was just what I wanted to make my life so much easier. Not that my life is complicated – but I surely didn’t want to stand at the sink scrubbing pots and pans!
I grabbed the little blue plastic bottle off the shelf and nearly staggered when I saw the price! almost FOUR DOLLARS for this little 12.8 FL OZ bottle. But, after seeing NO SCRUBBING on the label, I decided to give it a try and quickly found a cashier.
Heading home, now armed with my crust-fighter, I looked forward to making a bowl of baked ziti, smothered in cheese! Did I care if the cheese burned around the edges? Not at all! Okay, so I didn’t burn the cheese! I only melted it. Did I worry? No, I had my NO SCRUBBING POWER DISSOLVER! I sprayed it on the edges of the baking dish and waited. It didn’t remove all the melted cheese, as I thought it would.
Now, I’m thinking, The cheese didn’t burn and crust-up. It melted. Maybe this stuff only works on burned food particles. I’d find that out the next day.
After frying green peppers for sausage and pepper heroes, I saw large black crusts on the bottom of my frying pan. Ordinarily, this would bother me. But, remember? I’m armed with my DAWN POWER DISSOLVER! I almost shouted EUREKA! when I saw the burned food. I could NOW use my little blue bottle!
As I began the chore of loading the dishwasher, I sprayed my wonder fluid in the pan and set it aside. I waited the necessary 15 minutes and put the pan under the water faucet. All that rinsed off was the POWER DISSOLVER and a few small chunk of food. The majority of the burned on food was still there. According to the directions, some “tough items” may require an additional treatment. I sprayed it again and set it aside. Meanwhile, I pushed the start button on my dishwasher.
After another 15-minute treatment, I gently rubbed the spots with a sponge as the hot water rinsed off the POWER DISSOLVER. This time, a few more small chunks of food loosened and washed off but most of it still stayed on. I sprayed more on the spots but this time, I scrubbed the areas using a coarse nylon, scrubbing pad. The food came off completely but a yellow stain remained.
Finally, reaching my breaking point, I grabbed my trusty old steel wool scrubbing pad and scrubbed the [….] out of my pan! When I was done it looked like new.
Don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying that POWER DISSOLVER doesn’t work at all. It did work on lightly soiled glass baking dishes and splatters on the stove. It also works great on messy grease splatters. But considering the reputation of P&G, I thought for sure, this cleaning product would work – especially for the amount of the cost. I was greatly disappointed.
HOWEVER… thinking I might not have left it on long enough, I reread the label. That’s when I made my discovery! When you read the label carefully, ALL IT REALLY CLAIMS TO DO IS DISSOLVE BAKED-ON, BURNT-ON GREASE not food!
DOES THIS PRODUCT LIVE UP TO ITS CLAIM? Actually YES it does! It claims to remove baked-on, burnt-on grease! It does NOT claim to remove burnt-on food. It doesn’t claim to remove burnt cheese. It doesn’t claim to remove burnt spaghetti sauce from the bottom of the pot. Nor does it say it will remove burnt-on remnants of green peppers!
SHOULD YOU BUY THIS PRODUCT? That depends on what you want it to do and what you expect it to do. If you think this little blue bottle of cleaner will make your dishwashing chore easier, don’t bother. It won’t! However, if you think it will enable you to wipe of greasy grime in seconds, then, yes, it’s worth the money.
WOULD I RECOMMEND IT? Yes but with the comment about burnt food.
Would I buy it again? Personally, yes. It does clean the grease splatters off my downdraft in seconds making it look like new. For that reason, I feel it’s worth my FOUR DOLLARS!

Like all cleaners, this one has its precautions. So please read the label carefully. After all, it does contain (biodegradable) alkaline cleaning agents and solvents that can burn your eyes and skin.
