I did not get a chance to watch this teenage drama series while I was a teenager yet I do not regret it today as it transports me back in time to those good old days when all you had to worry about was getting through those exams.
I was skeptical of this show when it first began on Z cafe some months ago and no sooner did I watch 3 consecutive episodes, I turned out to be its greatest fan!
Let me introduce you to the fabulous and almost-immortal star cast.
Dawson Leary, Single son to parents who are struggling to keep their marriage. His passion: film-making. He shoots videos of his life and almost everything he feels like getting on film. He has been best friends with Zoey and Pacey. Zoey has shared his bed at nights, but just as friends, over the years, sitting and watching a movie together and talking about their lives. Pacey, has been his best bud through thick and thin. He falls in love with Jen, the hot-looking and slutty girl in college, who has a reputation for getting guys into bed. Jen, one day suddenly feels the need to take a step back from her life and think of ways to mend it and hence breaks up with Dawson, crushing his heart.
Dawson goes to Zoey with his troubles, who ends up giving him more than a shoulder to cry on, when she confesses that she has been in love with him from the time she knew him as a kid. Dawson is stunned, only to find in a few weeks’ time, that he is crazy about Zoey too. They start seeing each other, but unfortunately, it doesnt last long. He then finds himself crushed once more, with Zoey gone and his parents on the verge of divorce. He then goes back to Jen, who had regretted her decision of dumping him all along, but finally treats him like a friend, because that is what is more valuable to her. She doesn’t want to ruin things between them again.
Jen, a confused, frustrated and agonized girl, fails to come to terms with her life. Not realizing that Dawson was actually the best thing to happen to her, in an exasperated state of mind, she cuts him out of her life, only to realize later on, how desperately she needs him. She tries her best to get him back, hitting on him, in spite of knowing that he is with Zoey. This irks Zoey and she begins to dislike her once good friend. Finally, Dawson asks her to get a grip on herself, when she shamelessly tries to seduce him at his house and thats when she realizes that the doors to Dawson Learys heart are closed forever to her and that Zoey could only be the one he truly loves.
She then stumbles onto another guy, who did not have her best intentions at heart. Trying her best to cope with her life falling apart and the loss of her grandfather, the orphaned girl tries to settle in her rather depressing life with her only family-her grandmother, who is a devout catholic and keeps persuading her to join her in her bible study sessions. When Dawson feels broken about Zoey and his parents, she comforts him like a friend, something she never knew she was capable of. Finally, she meets a fine young handsome man through her granny. She begins to date him and like him and finally he takes her to one of his parties-a bible study session. Jen can’t help but smile at herself. Is this the beginning of a rosy new relationship and a rosy new life? Let’s wait and see.
Pacey winters, an egoistic and outgoing lad, who hails from a family he finds dysfunctional, for he is never cared for. He is best friends with Dawson, always standing by him through thick and thin. He did have his scrapes with Dawson, when he felt that Dawson is obsessed about Zoey and his relationship with her, to see Pace’s own agony and problems. But good-hearted that he is, he soon forgives Dawson. He finally meets the love of his life in Andy. Pacey had been the male equivalent of Jen, not finding a reason to not hit on beautiful girls, including Zoey, but this was different. He falls hopelessly in love with her, in spite of knowing fully that Andy herself comes from a real dysfunctional family.
Andy, a troubled girl, who lost her elder brother Tim, driving her into depression that forced her to stay on medication finds love in Pacey. Her younger brother Jack finds a job at Zoeys cafe. Her Mother is mentally unstable following Tims death and her coward dad left her and Jack to deal with their problems on their own. With all this on her mind, she finds it extremely hard to have a normal romance with Pacey, but the latter understands her like no other and always stands by her.
Jack, Andys gay brother, who keeps his sexuality a secret because he thinks that no one will understand him. Meanwhile, he starts liking Zoey, who is on breaking terms with Dawson. After splitting with Dawson, Zoey takes a liking to Jacks considerate nature and they start seeing each other, until he admits his secret to her. She then goes crying to Dawson, for the shoulder she has counted on for years. Is this the end for Jacks friendship with Zoey? Can they ever be normal again with each other? Yet to be seen.
Zoey, the love of Dawsons life has issues of her own always. The plain-looking but pretty, down-to-earth girl takes a perfectly normal romance with Dawson and ends it because she feels she wants to do something for herself and that it cannot involve him(?).Later she begins a confusing relationship with Jack, only to feel hurt on learning about his sexual orientation. Now that she has gone back to the arms of Dawson, who still loves her, will they be able to begin where they left off? Or will they just choose to remain as friends?
Those of you who want to enjoy the Dawson’s creek magic, don’t miss to watch it on Z Cafe every Saturday at 12:00 Noon.
Enjoy.
