I have always preferred comedy films because to me they are the stress busters. But not all of them, as in the recent past some of the comedy films failed to bring smile on my face, forget the laughter. Example Akshay Khanna, Arshad Warsi starrer Short Cut.
Looking at their past records we all know what difference the combination of the Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal & Priyadarshan can make. And they dont disappoint you with their latest product De Dana Dan, which also includes Sunil Shetty as one of the lead star.
Like majority of Indian films, this too is not a path breaking cinema but it follows the formula of entertainment with honesty and despite being a film with not a great story it keeps you entertained with some extremely hilarious scenes and some witty one liners. Thanks to the writers and the performers.
Its not an easy task to assemble a star cast of almost 20 people, have an ordinary story, create events that links all of them together & then make you laugh like mad constantly. Priyadarshan deserves a standing ovation for doing this successfully with De Dana Dan.
Its a story of Akshay Kumar & Sunil Shetty who needs money. Plans a kidnap, which goes wrong and that creates mayhem.
There are so many scenes in the film that will force you to laugh loudly and there is a chance that while you laugh you have missed a few rib tickling one liners. Watch out Akshay Kumar & Sunil Shetty when they kidnap Archana Puran Singhs dog or the fight between Akshay Kumar & Archan Puran Singhs dog or when Akshay Kumar get released from the cupboard & immediately Sharat Saxena starts beating him & the scenes thereafter are just a few such scenes that brings the house down.
The film does loose its charm for 30 minutes when Akshay gets locked in a cupboard though the other actors keeps you entertained.
Pritams music is not bad but still only one song "Paisa Paisa leaves its mark where as other songs are still pleasing to hear while they appear on screen & are forgotten as soon as the song is over.
Photography by K Ahambaram is excellent and he has captured Singapore beautifully.
The film relies heavily on the performances and there is hardly any actor who disappoints. Johny Lever after a long time looked good. Asrani brings smiles on your face. Sharat Saxena does a good job as a cop who wants to arrest Paresh Rawal. Chunky Pandey was ok.
Katrina Kaif looks stunning and does a decent job but she is hardly there on the screen. Same can be said about Sameera Reddy & Neha Dhupia, who too did a commendable job.
You cannot ignore the performance of Archana Puran Singh, who though was loud but still makes her presence felt. Watch her when she meets Akshay Kumar in hospital where he acts as if he has lost his memory.
Sunil Shetty has improved as a comic actor and his timing was just perfect to make you laugh.
Paresh Rawal as expected did a fantastic job, the only flaw I found in his performance was his Punjabi accent. Punjabi is my mother tongue and it was easy for me to pick up this flaw.
Akshay Kumar outshines everyone in the film. His performance takes the film to a different heights.
This laughathon by Priyadarshan is one of those rare films that will make you laugh from start to finish. No one, I repeat no one can say that he or she didnt laugh while they watched the film.
Go for it friends. Miss it and you have missed the chance of your lifetime to laugh a lot.
