When someone thought of the phrase Lottery of ones destiny he must have thought of scenarios like those created in deal ya no deal.
With an overdose of melodrama this creation of Miditech promises to make a crorepati of anyone who has the courage to say deal or no deal at those instants during which his ROI (Return on Investment) is maximized. Incidentally his investment in this case is only the one hour that he spends on the show.
What the serial aims at proving is not clear. There is no known mathematical difficulty in choosing boxes with an upper limit of 22 and that two one at a time. Each box contains one amount and when that is opened the corresponding amount is forfeited.
This is not a game of logic or intelligence. It is a game of showmanship. The assumed braggadocio of the contestants does nothing more to qualify the host, as does the false smile of a nondescript charlatan.
On the date of writing this game is in its third avatar. The first was hosted by Madhavan, the second by Mandira Bedi and the third by Rajeev Khandelwal. Not that one is better than the other. Or that any one is particularly worse off.
This game has those qualities that would appeal to the sensibilities of a village bumpkin.
A few interesting observations -
The amounts offered often have interesting patterns : eg) 2, 22, 222/-
There is a marketing guru who says that $9.99 appears better to the human mind that $10. Is this an extension of the same paradigm?
The contestants seem to be histrionically inclined. This does nothing to hide their poor social skills.
The hostesses are wearing progressively skimpier outfits. And in fact, they are even being addressed by their first names !!! TRP anyone.
All in all this offer from Sony is a treat for a depressed person in rehab. It may seem intriguing to some but as I said before it is doubtful as to whether a goldfish in a fish tank is any less intriguing.
My advice : Read a paper, magazine, poem or even take a short nap
My advice (again) : Stay away from your TV remote if you can or flip to the nearest channel on encountering this uninspiring fare.
