Best home remedies for mild burns

Burns are categorized by their severity. A first-degree burn is considered only affects outer layer of skin. It only causes mild pain, redness and swelling. Second degree burns affect deeper layers of skin and causes blisters and white, wet and shiny skin. Third degree burns involve damage to all layers of skin and fourth degree involves bones and joints. Third degree and fourth degree burns are considered medical emergencies and should only be treated in a hospital.

However we can treat first degree and second degree burns in home. Today I am going to share some home remedies to heal burns. the goal of burn treatment is to reduce the pain, prevent infections and heal the skin faster

  1. Cool Water: The first thing we should do is to run cool water over the burn for 20 minutes. Then we wash the burned area with mild soap and water.

  2. Cool compresses: A cool compress or clean wet cloth placed over the burn area helps relieve pain and swelling. You can apply in 5 to 15 minutes intervals.

  3. Antibiotic Ointments: Antibiotic ointments and creams help prevent infections. Apply an antibacterial ointment to your burn and cover with cling film or a sterile, non-fluffy dressing or cloth.

  4. USE ALOE VERA: Aloe-Vera is also known as burn plan. It is very effective in healing first to second degree burns and it is anti-inflammatory, promotes circulation and inhibits the growth of bacteria.

  5. Honey: Honey can heal a minor burn when applied topically. It is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

  6. Avoid the application of butter, oils, eggs, toothpaste and ice on your burned area. They will only increase the pain and burning sensations. Ice can cause a clod burn if used improperly.
