I love Debian

With reference to my review on Redhat :

My search for software that would stay really free ended up at Debians doorstep. To use an Operating System in a business environment with critical data I needed something that would stay on and not suddenly become paid or be replaced by another stripped down version of Linux which would again need me to learn something new... life is short and in an age of information, news, advertising and sensory overload its better to invest time in learning things that won’t change too soon, specially at the whims and fancy some manufacturer. I am a hobbyist at heart but as you pass through the different stages of life other things take priority and you realise that your computer needs to work for you and not the other way round... but Windows wasnt trouble free either... especially I hated paying for features which the bum’s at Micro$oft thought that would be ’’important’’ and ’’useful’’ for me.

Debian has not been all smooth sailing however as I still have to use it for surfing and other things like printing to my HP All in One. Nokia sent me a stiff reply saying that they are not responsible if I connect my 6020 to Debian. In fact on reading their mail, I got the feeling that they must have thumped the table hard and overturned their cup of coffee when they typed ’’no’’. I wonder why some manufacturers are so scared of Linux.

I’m still having trouble accesing my pen drive, HP all in one and airtel GPRS even after a lot of reading and searching... but sooner or later I will get through! Thats why I have not installed Debian in dual boot because sooner or later I’ll be formatting my NTFS drive containing windows with ext3. Once I get my broadband I needn’t worry about GPRS and finally do some meaningful work in Debian...

Debian is far from perfect, but because I love her so much, and there is so much scope for development in the future I’ll give her 5 stars...
