I subscribed to DC in Chennai because it came cheap at Rs 99 for a year (it’ll fetch a profit even as a waste paper!). Now, I’m regretting it.
It is full of sleaze and cleavages. Every day. Not a healthy thing to have around at home, with kids.
The layout is bad, to put it mildly. The paper quality and feel is pathetic - what else will you get for 100 paise - actually 27 paise for me?
And see the ads that they run - the TV ad was cheap (I’m sure they would have done it with a monkey producer for peanuts).
If they give offers like the ICICI one (99 bucks) they might get a good circulation, but that’ll be the only thing ’’good’’. At the new stand price of Re 1, Indian Express is far far better.
Male readers might have one other good thing to say (besides the bare-all pics) - the sports page seems quite colourful and loaded. Some good features from popular writers too.
If you are in Chennai and you want good editorial quality, go for Hindu. If you want value-for-money, get Indian Express. If you want your daily dose of sleaze, grab Deccan Chronicle.
