We are an international school; we follow IGCSE and ICSE syllabuses; we prepare our students for the toughest competitive exams and the best universities the world over; our students go on to study at MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Stanford, etc. This is what you hear from the principal and teachers all the time. Little do we realize that their MIT actually refers to Madrasa institute of technology in Ramnagar, not the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston; Oxford College is the one in Bommanahalli, Cambridge College is the one Krishnarajapura, Harvard College is the one in Dasanapura and Stanford College is the one in Kammanahalli, and such locally famous International colleges, just like Deccan International school that even the next road guy has not heard off!
Deccan school has turned into a rehabilitation center – teachers kicked out of every kind of school in Bangalore, and elsewhere from all over India find a shelter in Deccan school and undergo remedial courses, only to get worse by coming in association with other even sloppier teachers.
Teachers hardly know what should be taught to students that are relevant and practical; they come and just blabber what they think they know. Head of departments are the worst; they should be constantly reminded of the subjects they are heading. Teachers’ role has been limited to forwarding syllabus, setting time table and giving homework. These days, their duty has been further limited to sending self-study and do-it-yourself video links. Teachers take pleasure only in setting up the question papers that even they cannot clear.
Of late, the school has stopped dispensing textbooks and workbooks, even after collecting huge sums for the same. No wonder History will ever remain a mystery for the students who never get to see the textbooks. On the contrary, students always get the Maths right, because a workbook with answer keys is not even given to them for cross-checking the answers.
Teachers have become masters not in teaching, but in promoting exotic projects. They teach students to make paper boats and in turn, expect them to build a spaceship, that is too working. When such a project is carried out, teachers are immature enough in taking credit and pride in such projects where they had little involvement.
Teachers have such poor self-image and self-pity that they constantly demand respect and seek praise, rather than truly earning them from the students by teaching them well and being role models for behavior, conduct, and character. Teachers, the biggest bullies in the classrooms, are under the impression that the best way to exercise control and earn respect is by abusing students in public and creating fear amongst all. They take sadistic pleasure in broadcasting to the world that their students are miserable, idiotic fools. Sadly, they have little insight that the students performance mostly reflects on teachers and the school.
Talking in a classroom is a crime; socializing in school ends up in timeouts; students having a good laugh makes teachers feel jealous - such lousy personality they have. You will find people in commoner dress teaching because teachers do not wear uniforms – teachers fancy the idea that they are the best dressed in the classroom, and the staff room mostly looks like a fashion showroom. Parent-teacher meeting is one big drama where the teachers make every effort to pin the blame for the students poor performance on the parents’ genes. Apparently, most teachers think that their students’ fates are sealed at birth, just like theirs.
The office staff and the coordinators have no clue on anything happening in the school with the students and have been paid to just work as Bouncers for the teachers.
The nursing staff is the funniest; a student even with a pimple should not attend the school; because the nurse thinks it is an illness. Nursing’s only job has been calling in the parents and suggesting that they should rather homeschool their children.
What a Place of Torture and Misery! If you thought corona is the worst, wait until you interact with the school yet again. Welcome to another year of Hell on Earth indeed!
