I didnt expect much from Deewanapan and the movie delivered in that respect.Neither Arjun Rampals chiselled looks nor the snow capped locales make this movie a bearable experience.
The film is different in the sense that it has the familiar rote concept of a 1001 other movies of the girls father(Vinod Khanna) being the Sultan of Brunei and the guy(Rampal) the girl(Diya Mirza) loves being just another kid on the block. For no apparent reason, Vinod Khanna hatches plots ranging from cutting the phones, electricity off in Rampals humble home to inflating the price of everyday gobi to 400 bucks(fortunately not dollars) per kg(fortunately not grams). You dont need to be Sherlock Holmes to guess the end in which Rampal screams on top of his voice for the best part of an unending minute and Khanna shows his skills with the hockey stick.
Arjun Rampal is consistently bad;stiff as a rock but great at giving all the goons a heavy knock, he makes it pretty clear that Hindi was never his strong point. Why he starts crying when his friends bring him groceries is a whole new issue now then.Diya Mirza does a great job in making sure youll watch her again only at your own peril, while Vinod Khanna makes a comeback which makes you feel he should never have comeback. You can miss the start, you can miss the end but DO NOT miss the golf swing which had Tiger Woods gaping where Khanna in a fit of rage clubs the ball into the galaxy!
I know its a democracy but please do me a favour;dont contribute to the economy(and the morale of Rampal and Mirza)by watching this rigmarole!
