Very few people really had any grand expectations from this movie, seeing the way it was publicized.Weird TV trailors, mediocre songs and almost no media buzz before its release made it a non starter.Deewane huye paagal is , in retrospect, like a very talented team not playing upto its mark on a given day. Imagine, you have Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Om Puri , the new funny man Akshay Kumar and yet the comedy track is completely off key. The movie begins with Vivek Oberoi as the sutradhar, hamming to the hilt. The charachters are introduced one by one, but there is no real chemistry. The songs are a big let down. The only time you actually laugh is when the four charachters, Kumar, Rawal, Shetty and Shahid Kapoor join forces and share screen time. Coming to the performances:
Shahid Kapoor : has a completely author backed role, but wears the same lover stricken expression throughout the movie.
Akshay Kumar: Has the best lines and his chutzpah makes him look smart in an average movie
Rimmi Sen: Has nothing much to do, except look pretty( though she is not a patch on her Dhoom avatar)
Paresh Rawal : is in good nick but is not given ample scope by the script
Suneil Shetty: puts in a honest performance, his funny walking style may draw a few laughs
Johnny Lever: lends good support to Shahid Kapoor
Om Puri : Please watch a DVD of Dev. No furthur comments.
Vijay Raaz: its strange why such a talented actor took up such a 2-bit part, playing Akshay Kumars sidekick.
To sum up, the wit of Awaara Paagal Deewana is missing here. What comes across is a hastily made movie, with the director apparently confused as to who the actual hero of the movie is.. The script, the songs, the action or Shahid Kapoor.Come to think of it, an actual sequel wouldnt have been such a bad idea.
