More or less the same team as that of Aawara Paagal Deewana and the intentions are similar too. Deewane Huye Paagal is a good effort to trap the audience into laugh but characterizations of some characters are not very effective and hence make the movie dull at few points.
Story line:
The story starts with Karan (Shahid Kapoor) falling in love with Tanya aka Natasha (Rimi Sen), both studying in same college and then Natasha watching a murder of a scientist (Om Puri with beard) by scientist’s own nephew, who is son of a don (On Puri without beard - in double role) and leaving India in peace to save her life.
The crazy lover, Karan becomes “Majnoo” without Natasha and one day he finds out that his love is in Dubai. Infatuated by love, the lover decides to go to Dubai to find his love and Murugan (Johny Lever) is his companion in this task. The two hire an agent (more of a “Gunda” style) Rocky (Akshay Kumar) to go and find the address of Natasha. Rocky goes to Dubai and finds out all the details about Natasha with the help of his accomplice Vijay Raj.
When Karan and Murugan reach Dubai, Rocky tells them fake stories about Natasha to get this beauty out of Karan’s life so that he can move easily into Natasha’s life. There in the arena Rocky finds that 2 guys Sanju (Sunil Shetty) and Tommy (Paresh Rawal) are already there in the queue. And then starts the battle for finding the love of life among the 4 deewane. They cheat each other, they beat each other and they play every possible trick to get Natasha; this battle is a major part of the movie.
The movie ends with Don reaching Dubai, kidnapping the girl and some action and then a happy ending. But the biggest question is who gets the girl???? And for knowing that….. you have to watch the movie.
Performances:
Performance vise Akshay Kumar is the only saving grace for this movie, his comedy senses are becoming more and more mature and his timing of comedy is perfect. His comedy skills will remind you of “Mujhse shadi karogi” and “Hera-Pheri”. His character has also been portrayed very nicely. Intoto he is a genius. The second performance which can be said as very good is of Vijay Raj (a dumb assistance of Akki in the movie). Paresh Rawal, Sunil Shetty and Johny Lever have done justice with their roles; can be said as good performances. Rimi Sen has looked an absolute beauty in the movie; she is stunning and her acting skills are also not too bad. Asrani has a small role of another blind lover of Natasha and has given his good.
Flow of movie:
The first half looks a bit dull, since director Vikram Bhatt has given some time to set the plot. The second half on the other hand will make you laugh.
The movie is a remake of “There’s something about marry”, so if you have seen Cameron Diaz, you can think of avoiding this movie. Few scenes are just a mere copy of the scenes from the Hollywood flick. Still this movie makes you laugh (in the second half at least) with the some good performances, specially from Akshay Kumar.
Music:
“Kudi nu mera dil lutya” is able to move your feet sitting in the theatre and seems the only good song of the movie. All the other songs are just okay, so overall you can say that Anu Malik has not been impressive here.
In a nutshell, if you have 2.5 hours and you don’t have anything to do, do watch the movie.
