Honestly guys, I dont know what drove me to watch ’’Deewane huye Paagal’’ on a precious friday evening with such a cool and pleasnt weather in Mumbai.
I was in one of those somber relaxed moods that often culminate in a nice long drive along palm beach road or a midnite sip at cafe’ coffee’ day overlooking the calm waters of the arabian sea or even better, lounging around at cafe mocha with some hookah and lounge music.
However, destiny bade me to try out the latest bollywood masala dish - Deewane Huye pagal - DHP. ( I wasnt even aware of this movie until Friday afternnon when someone rather sheepishly suggested it !!!! ).
Anyways, the star cast looked inspirational with Rimi Sen , shahid kapoor, Akshay Kumar, paresh Rawal and Om Puri.
The movie started off pretty well actually with the introductions and all and seemed to point out to a promising laugh riot !..
Then slowly and surely truth dawned upon me like it did on Lalu yadav when his burning lantern faded out every second minute as the election results of Bihar threw up the ultimate truth.
The movie DHP is a lift.. its a pukka concrete A1 copy. Its a poor blatant copy of the then famous movie ’’There’s something about Mary’’ albeit without the famous scenes ;-)
As I realized it, everything became predictible. Its the same old whiskey packaged in a new uncorked champagne bottle.
Vivek Oberoi in a special appearance plays the Guitarist ...( remember... ) in ’’there’s something about Mary’’... ...
Sunil Shetty plays the limping pizza delivery boy in Mary.... The detective in ’’Mary’’ here is played by Akshay kumar, Shahid Kapoor plays the ’’famous zip scene’’ guy ...( remember...guys ???? ).. Rakesh bedi plays Mary’s handicapped brother !!!!!!!,
and who plays the incorrigible Mary - Cameron Diaz ????..... wel well well !.....Cameron Diaz is substituted by Rimi sen as Mary !!!!!!!!!!!!!
So what we finally have is a 90% copied remake on ’’Mary’’.... the same scenes, the same humour ( not as cheap as in mary ....), the same artchitect stuff, the same evasdropping by the detective...Its all the same...
So if you have seen the english version you can very well predict the end of this movie.
Thus, I wasn’t a tad , but a WHOLE LOT disappointed with this movie. Why do Indian producers make such blatant copies ?...... I expected better results from Vikram Bhatt who gave us ’’Raaz’’ in the past.
Well !... My anger here is directed at the producer because he made me see the same english movie all over again ! albeit with a bollywood cast !!!!!
The movie has nearly the same cast as ’’Awara pagal deewana’’... the ending theme and action is also similar as the ending action theme in ’’Awara Pagal Deewana’’ with all the motorbike stunts in the desert..( what a waste !!!..)
Well ! Some positives... Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal act exceedingly well .. replacing Matt Damon and co.... Rimi Sen looks nothing like the gorgeous Cameron Diaz and her acting ain’t worth much talking about !
The comedy is clean...it aint dirty like in Mary !..its more like a censored version..
So, whats my recommendation ?. Well ! DONT see this movie if you’ve already seen ’’There’s something about mary’’.
If you haven’t seen ’’Mary’’ then as well go and see DHP . You will end up laughing a lot more than I did !
