Delhi 6 - Watch it for yourself

Multiplexes’ online booking clogging, reviews flying, trailers building up the expectation and on top of all people spreading the word.. Yes, this is all what was happening on the day Delhi 6 was released.

The movie started with an unusual BGM and the camera rolling on the floor as a man gets light early morning and from then on the word ’Kala Bandar’ keeps ringing in the back of you head.

Abhishek Bachan an NRI comes to India and lives in Chandni Chowk (Delhi 100006). Well, from here the movie splits into few parallel threads with almost no connection to each other - Raam Leela, communal togetherness, family drama, etc.

I enjoyed all this for a certain point of time and then later started thinking to myself "is this a movie or an advertisement of MotoRokr" ;) then you kind of start getting confused as to what is the connection between Raam Leela, Kaala Bandar and all that is shown in parallel.

The well composed tracks keep featuring at a regular interval of half an hour and later we tend to forget as to at what situation what song came. The picturization of the song ’Dil Gira Dafatan’ is really wonderful and stays in our minds even after we get out of the cinema. Hats-off to the Cinematographer - Binod Pradhan, Editor - P S Bharthi and the crew.

The bottom line is that Delhi 6 did not live up to the images of a romantic plot created by the promos, but all in all it was an intellectual portrayal of the director’s vision of the negativity in the individual and the community, viewed from a neutral standpoint – an outsider who’s neither Indian nor foreigner, neither Hindu nor Muslim has no allegiances whatsoever to the other characters.

The attempt is laudable but did not transcend well into the majority of the audience who was hoping to spend some relaxed moments with their families and not cudgel their brains out to figure out the connection between the vague references.

Now, you must be wondering if I am saying the movie is Good or Bad. This is exactly what happens while you get out of the cinema and start thinking and questioning your own self. Watch it for yourself and keep reviewing.
