Well I didn’t expected a lot from this film anyways and I was not surprised after watching the film which was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. First of all DELHI is not at all like this. Chandni chowk is a very small part of Delhi and Delhi which is shown in the movie represents a very small part of the city.
Delhi is modern, bold, open minded and extremely posh and rich. I totally disagree with the song ’ yeh dilli hai mere yaar’ .This is not Delhi. The film was an insult to Delhi and India by showing every negative aspect of India and by showing the dirt of India .
It was old fashioned and regressive. The film had no plot to speak of and whatever plot was there was completely boring and ludicrous.
The film is about an NRI who comes to India in the old area of delhi to drop his granny bcoz she was dying and her last wish was to die in her homeland. It is a story about an NRI’s experience in the old delhi and his relations with the residents of old Delhi.
He sees a lot of backwardness and poverty and narrow mindedness of the people living there and how he deals with it forms the crux of the plot. The screenplay of the film is extremely slow and frigid. All the dirt and conservatism of narrow minded India is shown in the film.
I have never lived in such an old fashioned, conservative and regressive place where people are watching ramlila 24/7 and are treating poor people as untouchable and bows to a birth giving cow and who don’t respect and considers women’s dreams and who fights in the name of caste in such a trivial issue.
I cannot relate to this film and plz show modern and forward india. I know this things do happen in some parts of india but why show them in such a glorified manner and then say that this is india. Well talking about rakesh mehra’s direction which is ok and the music is superb but none of the songs are well picturised and they do not fit into the film at all.
The performances by th entire starcast is first rate but their characters are stereotypical and most of the stars including waheeda rehman, om puri, supriya pathak, tanvee azmi and divya dutta are completely wasted in weak roles.
The dialogues are ordinary and camerawork is decent. Abhishek and sonam both are brilliant in the movie but their romance is not shown properly in the film. The message given in the film has been given in so many films before and there was nothing new or great about it. So if u want to see backward, narrow minded and regressive india go and watch delhi 6. A truly obnoxious experience
