Sufi meets sensuous meets rowdy!!!!

Those of you who know me well know that I am not too much into new music, preferring to stick to my safe world of the Burmans, Hemant Kumar, Madan Mohan and the likes. but Rehman is, well Rehman. I have been waiting for Delhi 6 songs with bated breath. expecting and yet unwilling to expect. So here goes my take.

Masakall

i~ sets the mood of the album, raising the bar with the first song itself. It is one of the most exhilirating songs I have heard in recent days. I can actually imagine myself listening to it early in the morning and going for a walk. It makes you wanna loosen your shoulders and even if you are sitting in your office, listening to this one on your head phones, as I was the first time I listened to it, you are bound to shake a jig just sitting. if not, you are more disciplined than I am. It seems like a tribute to a young girl, or the spirit of life, exhorting her to go, take flight and follow her dreams. And I thought the song was sung by Sukhwinder, but was in for a pleasant surprise, the singer is Mohit Chauhan, and what a shocker it is. I would never have expected this rowdy rustic charm from the silken voice that sung Tum se hi. I loved the https://lyrics.

Aye masakali masakali, ud matakkali matakkali,

Aye masakali masakali, ud matakkali matakkali.

Aye masakali masa masakali, ud matakkali matakali,

Masakali masakali, ud matakkali matakkali.

Zara Phank jhatak gai Dhool Atak

aur Lachak Machak Ke Duur Bhatak

Listen to "Purr Bhuur bhurrr Phuurrr" in the mukhda. you feel like whisteling along. pump up the volume.

This is a song thats gonna climb up the charts very quickly, simply because its simple, and somehow true to the spirit of Delhi, all brash, with its heart in the right place!

Bhor Bhaye~ is a classical song, and my friends tell me its Raag Gujri Todi, supposedly sung early morning. I quite liked it, what with Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan at his usual best, and Shreya also managing to hold her own.

Bhor bhayeee Tori baat takat piya

Bhor bhayeee Tori baat takat piya

Naina alsaaye bhaaye

Sagari rain ka Jaage

Noor~ is nothing but a brief commentary by AB, and is quiet sufi in connotations, what with the comparison between beloved and God.

Zarre zarre mein usika noor hai

Jhaank khud mein woh na tujhse door hai

Ishq hai usse to sabse ishq kar

is ibaadat ka yahi dastoor hai

Is mein us mein aur… us mein hai wohi

Is mein us mein aur… us mein hai wohi

Yaar mera har taraf bharpoor hai .

Aarti(Tumre Bhavan mein)~ is a soothing chant. which has the power of putting you at peace and bringing tears of solace to your eyes. A tribute to Vaishno Devi, it soothes your heart and soul and even if for an instant, makes you feel as if all is bearable after all.

Dil Gira~ This reminds me of a jam session, what with so many sounds exploding through the speaker. and here I am gonna go crazy for the https://lyrics. please bear with me.

Dil mera

Dil gira kahin pe

Dil Gira kahin per da-fatan

Dil Gira kahin per da-fatan

Jaane magar ye nayan

Teri khamosh zulfon ki gehraiyaan

Hai jahan dil meraa uljha hua hai wahin kho gaya

Tu magar hai bekhabar, hai bekhabar…

The way this song changes, what do I call it, beats, tempo, its like you are flying high and low, touching a valley of flowers in between, looking at the crystal clear waters of the sea. and flying, flying, flying. highhhh!

Seepiyon ke honth se moti chhalak rahein hain

Ghazlon ki sohbat mein geet bhi behek rahein hai

samundar lehron ki lehron ki chaadar odh ke, so raha hai

Genda phool~ Just the title of the song brought a smile to my lips.

Saas gaali deve, sasural genda phool

I dont understand why music composers and directors dont utilize Rekha Bhardwaj more. the way she has been neglected by the so called mainstream group is criminally insane. The magic of AR and RB is sensuous, magical and alluring. And the lyrics by Prasoon Joshi just add flavor to this tongue in cheek song which is soon gonna be a must play at all the Punjabi weddings at least.

Hey Kaala Bandar ~ ho hum at the first listen. it might improve with more sunos, but for right now, I am jumping onto the next track.

Rehna Tu~ Rehman is back at the mike!

Rehna Tu Hai Jaisa tu

Thoda sa dard tu Thoda Sukoon

Rehna Tu Hai Jaisa tu

Dheema Dheema jhonka

Ya phir junoon

Thoda sa resham

Tu humdam

Thoda sa khurdura

Kabhi daud jaaye, Ya lad jaye

Ya khushboo se bhara

Donno why the lyrics remind me of Kabhi neem neem kabhi sakht sakht, but I am willing to excuse that. for Rehman is at his silken best, and this is a song thats gonna go places. Listen carefully the way song ends, what with "rehna Tu" reverberating softly, fading in the background. simply mesmerising. This song’s magic is only because of AR.

Delhi 6~ Its a kickas$ song. plain and simple.

Basti hai mastaano ki dilli.Delhi 6

Gali hai deewaano ki dilli…Delhi 6

Ye dilli hai mere yaar

Bas ishq muhabbat pyaar

Kabhi pyaar mein gaali deta hai

Kabhi gaali mein pyaar bhi hota hai

Kick as$!

Arziyan~ a quwwaali, quite lengthy, but keeps you there till the end. I loved the way it starts.

Arziyaan saari main chehre pe likh ke laaya hoon

Tumse kya maangoon main tum khud hi samajh lo

Maula Maula maula mere maula

This quwwali holds you spellbound, as if in a trance, you are afraid to even breath, for fear of breaking that magic, that tenuous hold that has been established with the Almighty.

Ek khushboo aati thi

Main bhatakta jaata tha

Reshmi si maaya thi

Aur main takta jaata tha

Jab teri gali aaya

Sach tabhi nazar aaya

Tujh mein hi wo khushboo thi

Jisse tune milwaaya…maula.maula…

Wonderful https://lyrics. finally the Prasoon magic registers and with the masterful voices of Kailash Kher and Jaaved Ali, this is a piece of soulful peace you should carry with you. asking the God to take us in His fold, asking Him not to forsake us.

marammat muqaddar ki kar do maula.

All in all, this is one album you should go for. Spiritual, sensual, kick rowdy, naughty, in your face attitude, it has it all, and all in a seamless amalgamation. Its a gem!
