Delhi Darbar, oh how can I forget this restaurant. Summer of 1998, I was off from school and was helping a cousin of mine with his business in Colaba. For lunch, it was either go hungry, cause we were so busy getting the latest ad-campaign out or it was a hop to the neighbouring Delhi Darbar.
I am qualified to write on DD because I can claim to have been there atleast 30 times! And my cousin and I must have ordered parcel from there atleast 20 times.
Ok, coming to Delhi Darbar, the food is yummy. They have AC and non-AC section. I would always recommend th AC section...you dont go to DD just for a quick lunch...you go there when you really want to enjoy food!
Now they have couple of branches but the one in Colaba is the main one. The ambience is good. Nothing fancy, but it wouldnt hurt if Mr. Jaffar (owner of Delhi Darbar) renovates the cieling and re-furbishes the seating system. Its kinda dark and the marble flooring has kinda worn out.
The food is real good...man, that Dabba Gosh is my favourite. Its meat cooked in small dose of North Indian spices. Delhi Durbar is the best for Mughlai and North Indian non-veg food. I am not qualified to rate their veg stuff. Then, that tangdi kebab and Chicken Hongkong...oh my god, chicken hongkong is world-class...trust me I know what am talking about. Ok, now am not just raving about the food...I am telling you what I usually order there. Then their tandoori chicken is also worth trying...and of-course dont forget to order the Biryani, if you are a rice-lover. Mutton Biryani was kinda heavy...I rarely ordered it.
Overall, DD is a good place to go out with family. The waiters are extremely humble and courteous...though they could speed up their service with little more training. Serving quantity is adequate. Reservation is not necessary, although sometimes you gotta wait 5-10 minutes.
Worse thing at DD...they dont accept credit cards...shoot, what do you expect..carry loads of bills each time?
