I was a die-hard Dell fan and user.
I sold many Dell systems in India as part of my job in the mid nineties when Dell was making a comeback in India and that was a time when we used to swear by the Dell products and service. Dell was also a growing company and striving hard to become no.1 vendor, which it finally did become.
Out of my loyalty to Dell, which I do not sell already for more than last 8-9 years, I bought a Dell Inspiron for myself from USA. Ideally I should have been entitled to an international warranty. I even registered the product on-line as required.
After just 3-4 months I started facing problems with the battery, which would last for not more than 15-20 min. It started then giving me an option to recaliberate, which I did many times, yet it became a regular feature on every bootup. Finally I called Dell, which incidentally only provides support five days a week. I looged my complaint and in return got a mail back after three-four days, which did not talk about any warranty support but was a quotation for placing order for a new battery - apparently the dark side of the Call Centers in India which the Americans always keep cribbing about.
I wrote back about warranty status again and have not heard from them ever since.
Morale of the story: Buy Dell, forget warranty.
