Hi,
I have been using this laptop for the past 2 months now(Bought it Feb beginning ‘17), for programming and have been juicing it out with simultaneous use of Android Studio, MySQL Workbench and Vagrant, and I must say it is not disappointing me.
This laptop comes with a 8 GB DDR4 RAM which is an upgrade from the prevalent DDR3(DDR4 operating on 2400Mhz while the DDR3 operates at around 1600Mhz if memory serves me well). So definitely faster computing.
Now since there are two RAM slots and it takes up only one with a single channel 8GB, so it’s actually upgradeable to 32 GB(2x16GB single channel DDR4).
It comes with the KabyLake 7th Gen i7 7500U, pretty powerful and can clock to 3.5 Ghz.
The display is just beautiful with FHD and very thin bezel.
Comes with Windows 10 which boots in seconds( I have the one with the 128GB SSD, there’s another version with just the 1TB HDD)
Windows 10 is doing better to be honest, though terminal programming is still not at par with Unix machines.
Keyboard is full sized without any number pad.
The keys are pretty responsive and a pleasure to type on.
The trackpad is simple superb! Highly responsive and has multi touch features which is highly convenient while changing programs(You will forget the Alt+Tab or the Windows+Tab).
The speakers are on the bottom which sucks! since they are decent and unless you place it one a perfectly smooth surface the sound muffles.
It also has a 4 GB graphics card GeForce® 940MX GDDR5. I have not used the GPU since I am not a gamer but I have been told that it is a pretty decent gaming memory. Perhaps I’ll update more on this if I ever come around to GPU programming.
It’s very small when compared to other 15.6 inch laptops which are heavier and larger.
This one weighs only 2 Kg. The aluminum finish is damn pretty but I got a scratch on it so its scratch prone:/
Also the hand rest have sort of a soft matte finish which is awesome though I don’t know how well they will last(been only two months, but no problems as of yet)
The webcam is at the bottom so that is going to be very difficult to adjust to since the image is going to be on a very different angle.
All in all I would say if you are willing to drop~81k then this is the laptop to go with or if you don’t want the SSD and happy with a i5 then~71k will get you the 7560 other model.
Cheers
