I did exhaustive reserch when I felt that my macbook pros 13 inch screen is too small, also I got settled after 1 yr of frequent travel.
Shortlisted my list to viewsonic 2450, samsung PX 2370, asus ML238, asus VG236H, dell ST2420L, Dell Alenware OptX AW2310.As per review all are equally good(really difficult to pic one)
All had common feature, which were my priorities like 24 inch, LED backlit, good contrast, and colour, fast refresh rate(Considering my plan to hook it to my ps3 for gaming)
I am from Kerala, and Kochi is supposed to be the hub for all dealers, I called and found to my utmost shock samsung and viewsonic models were NOT AVILABLE! As per company web site all these are avilable!
Finally I had to short list to dell ST2420L, alienware OptX AW2310 and asus VG236H, of these last two are 3D ready, asus cost around 20000 rs and alienware 26000 rs!Eventhough I was tempted by both especially Alienware(feature galore!), considering that ps3 3D output won’t work with 3D pc monitors, dropped the idea and went ahead with dell.
If you google most results are for Dell ST2420, which is an older model and not LED, reviews are NOT promising.
But DELL ST2420L is much improved version
Build is good, stand is good, tilt adujastable BUT NO HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT.glossy black border with metallic silver bottom strip, and theatre like illumination below dell logo, which changes colour from amber in standby to white when on. All control are touch sensitive on right side bezel, (EVEN CUSTOMIZABLE). No inbuilt speakers, but you can hook up your on speakers or dell has a specific optional soundbar-designed to attach to the lower lip
conectivity
Dell monitor includes the full range of computer connections: DVI, HDMI, and VGA. There are also 3.5mm audio in and audio out jacks. But, Dell bundles only a VGA cable with the unit.
Unfortunately, the connectors and inputs on the ST2420L are inconveniently located under a lip, pointing downward.It would have been better if it had, outward-facing connectors, as on the Samsung Monitors.
Settings
With the on-screen display(OSD) controls located on the lower right side of the bezel, the Dell ST2420L offers a wide range of settings and display adjustments.
Display and Performance
The Dell ST’s matte, LED-backlit, 24-inch, 1920 x 1080 full HD display offered deep colors.Viewing angles on the ST2420L were appropriately wide, even from several feet away.To my surprise it performed very well when connected to my macbook as well as PS3, gaming is really smooth no pixellation or freezing even with fast paces scenes.
