I Visited Deoria Tal on 21 Feb 2019 and stayed there for3 days and 2nights and had a really great time except for quite a few things that I will definitely mention , Deoria Tal is located in Rudraprayag district of Uttrakhand and can be reached after a 2.3 km uphill trek from the villages of Sari. For those travelling in their own conveyance Sari is a 8-9 km drive from Ukhimath and around 20-25 km from Chopta. For the once travelling in public conveyance there are share taxies operating from Ukhimath to Mastura located at a distance of around 1.5 km from Sari. The highlight of the trip is however the breathtaking view of mountains like Chaukhamba, Nikantha, Bandarpunch, Kedar Range, kalanag to the left. During my stay I witnessed rampant forest fires around the National Park also right under the nose of Uttrakhand forest department. Forests are been intentionally set on fire either by locak villagers or forest mafias. I am sure that these were intentional fires, because forest fires are not natural for this part of the year and more importantly , unlike pine, the natural vegetation( banj and buras, local names) in this area are not prone to fires. I would request all the future visitors to take up the issue with concerned authorities. I have already done that, or atleast try spreading awareness about such reckless acts among locals in case they encounter similar unpleasant sights. There are a lot of idiots who visit this place just to drink and it is because if these idiots, apathy of the forest department and short sightedness of the locals operating tourist lodges and camps in Deoria Tal forest is littered with plastic bottles, emptied bags of chips and namkeens. I would like to request all the visitors to be more responsible and ensure that we just leave behind our footsteps and take along with us nothing except photographs and memories.
