A social environment , is filled with people from all classes moreover its professionally very diverse. There are Doctors, Accountants, Traders, Businessmen, Musicians , Actors, Architects, Engineers and many more. But there is one profession that is responsible for creation of all the ones mentioned above… and that is Teaching.Teachers are the backbone of any civilization , its easy to part with kindness, happiness, wealth but its never too easy to part with knowledge. Imparting knowledge in order to enrich the other with it is a very difficult task.
India has a very bright history of respecting teachers , right from the times of Ramayana and Mahabharata teachers have been the most respected of all the professions. In Ancient times Nalanda was the best university , and for the ones who are unaware this was in India. So much so that people from other countries notably the Chinese scholar Huen Tsang spent a lot of his time here. In modern India the teaching profession is not even a shadow of the lustre it had earlier. Teaching is no longer a prime profession as it was before.
The Layman’s Idea
Teachers are known as people who strike especially when Exams are near and trouble our poor children. Teachers are also blamed for the poor performance of our children. There is a considerable respect for teachers but when the time comes when they need our support we back out. We hear about striking teachers and the government promising a heavy increase and lo !!! next year they promptly strike again.
The Harsh Reality
The plight of teachers especially in Maharashtra is very bad . Did you know teachers get their salary from Government Grants and did you also know that most teachers in government aided schools and colleges ( most of them are …) get their salaries once in 2 to 3 months. Morever there is this policy wherein if a particular department shuts down the teachers in that department can be transferred anywhere in Maharashtra. Lets think of this we live in a society with teachers among us , imagine how difficult it would be financially to survive with erratic salaries and to move to an unknown place all of a sudden, with no guarantee of being paid for it.
Uncertain Future
Motivation drives man … it carries him through life his struggle to survive. Motivation shall cease to exist in such harsh conditions. There is this fear about our children our future, if this persists how would they be educated. In this growing developing economy where education is the prime objective there is this fear they would not receive the level of education we have had !!!
This is the ground reality presented to MS readers, I am a student and I shudder to think what I would have been without education. To all the readers who have reached till this line please ponder what made you read till here !!! . Join me in spreading this awareness and make India a brighter and better place to live in !!!
