I wasnt to keen for this particular movie from the beginning and on top of that to pay exorbitant amount for the ticket, no way!Imagine tolerating Sharukh Khan for 3+ hours- it is actually nothing but pain, I dont have that much patience for his hammimg and theatricals. But I did watch it on the CD (saved my ticket money!)since my friends really ripped the movie apart with their authentic reviews. I had no option but to see and give my comments too.It was so garish and extravagant in every respect- from the sets to the nuances of the leading ladies. It was laden with opulence which was not required- imagine spending 50 crores for a movie!
The movie script deviated from the original story and gave it completely new angles. For example, Devdas in original version goes to Calcutta for studies but here is packed off to London- such artistic liberties in the name of change! The director tried to project the Bengali look- in which he failed miserably, the characters looks so pseudo-bongs.All what is visible on the screen is over exposed lavishness.
The cast is fine and the only saving grace is Madhuri Dixit-who still oozes charm and grace and Aishwarya as Paro is too loud, she lacks the sensitivity and sensuality both.
The song picturization was something which can make someone sit through otherwise an average film- which completely overrated!
