U'll enjoy it if u don't ask why...

’’Dil ke chhalon ko sher kehte ho koi gum nahin,

Takleef to tab hoti hai jub koi wah wahi karta hai.....’’ ... Devdas ...

Based on the novel by famous bengali writer Sarat Chandra Chottopadhya, this movie unfolds before us the saga of two neighbourhood lovers... Devdas (Sharukh Khan) and Parvati whom everybody calls as Paro(Aishwarya Rai).

Devdas is the son of the village head, the Jamindaar. Paro is the daughter of a so n so person. Both Devdas and Paro are childhood friends. After some days, Devdas goes to London for further studies and the contact between the 2 lovers is now through letters only. Dev comes back completing his studies...a handsome person and meets Paro the beautiful belle. The romance suppresed for all these days, mushrooms again. Though Paro’s parents are keen for this releationship, Devdas’ parents are against this match. As the match will not be a traditional one.Paro’s mother (the role excellently played by Kiran Kher) comes with the proposal to Devdas’ house but is turned away by Dev’s mother who insults her. Dev gets angry and leaves the house without taking Paro with him. Paro’s mother had told her that if Dev leaves without her, then she has to abide by her rules henceforth. Now Paro’s marraige is fixed with another Thakur of the next village Manikpur, who is a widower with 2 children.

Devdas with his broken heart goes to his friend Chunnilal(Jackie Shroff..who has got a amicable ’’Ki Bondhu(Hi Friend)’’ dialouge delivery...) in the city .Chunni take Devdas to Chandramukhi’s (Madhuri Dixit Nene) place. Chandramukhi is a famous courtesean of the time at whose place Devdas seeks some solace. Chandramukhi gets attracted to Devdas’ personality and falls in love with him. But Devdas, who was a teetotaller hates Chandramukhi for her profession and leaves the place. Chandramukhi prays Chunnilal to get Dev one more time. Meanwhile Paro’s marraige is fixed and Devdas goes to attend it. It’s a bolt from blue for him and he falls sick n unconscious on enroute to the city. Chunnilal takes him to Chandramukhi’s place where Devdas comes round by her nursing and care.

Moved by Dev’s caretaker’s(Tiku Talsania) plea Paro goes to Chandramukhi’s place to ask her not to destroy Devdas. But she feels the love and respect that Chandramukhi has for Devdas and leaves the place knowing that Devdas at last is not alone.

Now Devdas starts to enjoy, Chandramukhi’s music and dance and her company and gets himself drowned by liquor. It starts to take its toll on him. The doctor says that another drop is going to be fatal for him.

Meanwhile Paro’s husband and in-laws come to know the relationship between the duo and Paro gets the punishment that she can not leave the premises for outside ever.

Finally, Devdas leaves Chandramukhi’s place and goes on travelling in a train aimlessly. At one station, Chunnilal stumbles incidentally into the compartment in which Dev is in. Chunni unaware of Dev’s disease offers her some drink which dev refuses to take at first. But eventually sureenders to it and takes the drink. It proves fatal for him. Then the final station comes in his life where you have to get down to go to Manikpur, the village of Paro. Dev had once promised Paro that he’ll be her guest and give her a chance to nurse him. He remebers it and knows that it is the last chance that he has to have a last look at his beloved.

So he goes on a cart to the Manikpur village and is fatally ill enroute. The cart stops before the village head(thakur’s house) and the cartman getting no reply from Dev takes him out of his cart and rests him under a tree. The village doctor leaves all the hope for the unknown man. Paro comes to know of this tragedy and tries to meet Dev and...

OK Folks.Let the last part be a mystery for those who don’t know the story and wish to see it. It will be unfair for me to tell everything. Though I’ve only told u bits n pieces of the classic you have to see it to feel it.

Y’day I went to watch this movie. What about it? Ok. Listen up. Directed by Sanjay Leela Vanshali and financed by Bharat Shah, this movie is a feast for your eyes and ears. Great choreography, music, dress, lighting, photography it has for you.

But...yes but something still happens to be amiss. What it is exactly I won’t be able to tell you people. May be all the other effects nullify to some extent the emphasis on the main character...that’s what I felt. If you have seen the old Devdas starrring Dillip Kumar, Baijayantimala and Suchitra Sen may be you will be able to get what I mean. Any way this is my feeling only, but guys go n have a look at this. You will enjoy this one.

If you’ve a fight with your bf/gf/spouse...take him/her to this movie...just half an hour to one hour into this movie and I bet...his/her hand will find your’s. It’s a bet. What happened to me? Sigh... this Devdas here was watching the movie all alone. U also hate watching alone? U said it man..so do I. But where’s my Paro/Chnadramukhi..............?

Thanks for reading all this with so much patience. Please don’t forget to add a comment. So that at least I can know what others felt about it.

Enjoyy...
