I admit I have become a fan of this album the minute I heard this song !! If you have liked songs from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, you will definitely like this album. Take it from me !!!:)
The songs are so melodious that you feel like flowing with the music. The tunes are very a combination of classical and western, well more of classical to take you back to the good old days where thumris and qawalis had their own place.
The melody is not new yet very unique. Sanjay Leela Bansali along with Ismail Darbar has done a great job. This album also has given the new lyricist Nusrat Badr a great launch pad. We also get to hear a new singer Shreya Ghoshal who is excellent.
The songs can immediately make you visualize about the situations on which they are sung !! Something which is very reminiscent of old movies which did not have songs at the drop of a hat with a dream sequence just because it looked good on screen.
1. Silsila yeh Chahat ka Lot of chorus happening at the beginning.... this songs seeps on you. A vey roman Shreya Goshal sings this amazingly with the help of an excellent chorus.
2. Dola re Dola re Amazing percussions, very rhythmic and orchestra happening. You will feel like breaking into a dance.. at least I did. We have a blend of the old ( Kavitha Krishnamurthy and the new (Shreya Goshal ) and both have complemented each other well I must say ...
3. Maar Daala This is the song which I just fell in love with. It reminded me of the Rekhas mujra songs. Lovely lyrics, amazing chorus, good orchestra, good beat. Kavitha Krishnamurthy is absolutely superb with this song.
4. Bairi Piya ISHHHHH..... How I love the starting of the song. It conveys so much .. she is shy, coy, in love and tempting her beloved... a very romantic song. Shreya G and Udit Narayan make it very .. ishhhhhhhhh.. :)You have to listen to this.
5. Kahe Chede Mode Very Classical yet very pleasant. Reminds you of nostalgic mujra scenes where a beautiful lady is entertaining her admirers. Here Kavitha K is the female lead along with Pandit Birju Maharaj who is the male lead. And surprisingly Madhuri also has some role in making the song what it is. She recites some parts of the songs in the form of a verse and it complements the song well. And they have managed to sing an ishhh.... here too !! Very unique.
But this song is strictly for Hindustani classical music lovers.
6. Hamesha Tum Ko Chaha hai Its a melodious song. The effect of the chorus is better than the effect of the lead singers ( Kavitha and Udit N ), I felt. The orchestra also overshadows the lead singers. All in all the effect is quite soul stirring.
7. Woh Chand Jaisi Ladki It begins very softly. One of the songs which does not begin with a chorus. The orchestra is mild and very soothing. An appreciation of a girl who was a childhood friend too and whom he has lost. Very well sung by Udit Narayan , (reminds me of EK Ladki ko dekha from 1942 a Love Story). Just like that song the lyrics are simple yet very heart touching.
8. Morey Piya This song has the combination of amazing percussions and the powerful voice of Jaspinder Narula and the sweet rendition of Shreya G. While Jaspinder gives strength to the music Shreya provides the smooth melody... a very good blend.
9. Chalak Chalak A jolly number, something very modern, nothing great according to me but you might like it. I did not find it that great. Sung by Udit N and Vinod Rathod its an okay number.
10. Devdas Theme its soothing , flowing piece of music. After a long time they have introduced a theme music to movies. Its pleasant again slightly on the classical and a majhi (a boatman) song.
My thoughts
I highly recommend this album if you are a lover of Indian classical music and for my friends who have liked songs of Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam.
