!Dola Re Dola!

The project everyone is waiting for even me!...is Devdas. But seeing as all of us have to wait to feast our eyes on ShahRukh Khan, Madhuri (Dixit) Nene and Ashwariya Rai...we will just have to treat our ears to the Devdas Album.

First I must say that I love the Cd cover, as it very bright and we have the two most beautiful women posed on it!

Plus if one takes a closer look to the cover, you can see that there are ’’Cave’’ like paintings, which adds a great colour and even excites me to quickly take the CD out of the cover! The music is done by Ismail Darbar who also composed the music to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. This time doing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas.

In total there are ten tracks, but for me there are only five tracks; as they are my favourites and I skip the rest. These favourites are ’’Silsila ye Chaahat, ’’ ’’Maar Daala, ’’ ’’Kaahe Chhed Mohe, ’’ the ’’Devdas Theme, ’’ and last but not least ’’Dola Re Dola.’’

’’Silsila Ye Chaathat’’ is a slow song with a lovely tune, especially in the beginning. Shreya Ghosal has sung this very well with a lot of emotions, which is a big highlight to this song. And her voice also suits Ashwariya Rai very well indeed. Darbar also has used the background signers very well, but as mentioned Shreya Ghosal stands out from the rest by far.

’’Maar Daala’’ which is being shown in the promos is focused on Madhuri. This song is sung by Kavita Subramaniam, who is one of the best singers in Bollywood; and also sounds great when mined by Madhuri-I think they make a good combination. The classical music is very good. Being a Kathak dancer myself, I do have both the knowledge and an ear of Classical music. Iam sure that this song will be beautiful on screen, not just because of Madhuri but also due to the set and costumes too.

’’Bairi Piya’’-or as many of you otherwise know as ’’Isssshhhhhhh!’’ This is also in the promos. Honestly speaking I find this song boring, until the the last 90 seconds where there is a repetion of ’’Hey Ram’’ its very well done again by Shreya Ghosal. this song is too slow and does go on a bit too much.

’’Kaahe Chhed Mohe’’ is composed by Birju Maharaj who is brilliant, I had meant him on one of my dance shows and he was great to work with, and its good to be writing about his magic. As some of you may know that Madhuri had and still is taking lessons in both dancing and singing; and in this song she has done some ’Kavita Bols’- basically she has sung some classical poetry-and is not bad too. The song is very good and has a odd feeling to it, as half the time it makes the atmosphere pleasing and at other times it is a bit tensed. Overall this is a good classical song that I have actually heard from a movie.

’’Chalak chalak’’-actually I forgot to mention this one as one of my favourites (ISSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH!) O well this is a very pleasing and makes one feel light hearted. This song is indeed very enjoyable and Iam waiting to see how they have pictured this track in the actual movie.

’’Hamesha Tumko Chaha’’-I really do not like this song, I do not really why (yes Iam dumb...I know) but I suppose it is just not my type of songs. It also reminds a bit of the music of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam; which also disappointed me about this album.

’’Woh Chan Jaisi Ladki’’- this is another Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam like song! The general wording of this song is not bad; but is slightly boring!

’’Morey Piya’’- this song seems a bit out of place along with all the other songs as it seems to have a different aura than the other songs. This song is not bad, but I do skip this song when I can...like right now.

’’Devdas Theme’’- I love this piece of music, though one can say that its just various kinds of music just bundled together; but this is the great bit. The music also makes you sense fear, then makes you sad but calm and again you sense fear and danger. A whole load of emotions packed in four minutes and three seconds! Makes you realise how short life really is!

Save the best till last thats what I say, and I think thats what they have done. I think this is the best song out of the whole of this album. ’’Dola Re Dola’’ is very fast and great sing-along to. This song also reminds of ’Nimbooda’ and ’Dholi Taro Dhol Baaje’ both songs from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Here we will see both Madhuri and Ashwariya dance together in beautiful sarees, with another sparkling set. This song is brilliant as it pleases you and the after taste of the other songs disappears after listening to this track. And along with the Madhuri and Ashwariya combination, we also get the Kavita and Shreya combination and they both sound great.

Overall this album is not bad, but it did disappoint me a bit. But one must not forget that there are great tracks like ’’Dola Re Dola’’ and ’’Maar Daala’’. I just hope that the actual movie does not disppoint me as much as this album did, but is that happen that songs seem much better in the movies than to just listening to them!
