Perhaps calling this book an out and out chick thing would be out. Guys can read this. But bewarned, the fashion stuff here requires a minimum quantity of knowledge about the fashion scene. Otherwise, its quite readable.
So we have a nice, innocent, small town girl Andreah Sachs, who joins Runway as the Junior Assistant of Miranda Priestly, a job a million girls would die for. And then begins her self be litling journey.
One thing in the entire narrative that will strike you is the utter innocence of Andrea. It simply is not believable. But then, you come to know that the Author was working at a fashion magazine herself and then you know where the inspiration for this book came from. anna Vintour, the Editor of Vogue is known to be Satan in her own right.
The end, as is the case with all these books is utterly predictable. The only thing that keeps you hooked to the book is the sarcasm which, I must say, was quite biting. That and Miranda.
In the end, it just boils down to the good vs. evil thing, and that, I think is the undoing of the book. The book dictates, and does not give the space for evolving our own inferences from the narrative. Though I had picked up the book for a light perusal, I was left just that bit disappointing. It, in no way, compared to the other books I read for relaxation, namely those by P.G. Wodehouse or Agatha Christie to name a few. But for a beginner, its decent. And hey! Meryl Streep was in the movie. What more can you ask for?
