Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal in one word: **Paisa Vasool
Take a bit ofLagaan, pepper it withI:Proud to be
Indian and garnish it withChak De India.lo and behold.the resultant
is a Goal!
*Story:
Southall United Football Club is down and out.no money, no
coach, no sponsors and to top it.players with no confidence. The Southall
ground that they play on is on the verge of being sold. The only hope is a
championship in one months time which will ensure Southall gets all it
deserves.the pride, the honour, the money, the ground.in short their
identity. Everyone is struggling till a retired ex-footballer agrees to coach
them. They work hard and form a good team with a great defense. But is it enough
to ensure victory or do they need something more? Watch Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal
and find out for yourself.
*Performances:
John Abraham should be proud and how. After Dhoom, Kabul
Express and Water he proves yet again that hes not just a model who has turned
to acting.hes simply superb. If people liked Arshad Warsi as
Circuit.theyll love him as Shaan.a serious footballer who breathes
football. A splendid job. Boman Irani.bankable as always.an ex-footballer
with a disturbing past.he plays the part with utmost belief in his
character. Bipasha Basu has a very tiny role and couldve been replaced by
anyone.I think she was chosen simply for some commercial appeal. Dalip Tahil,
Raj Zutshi, Kushal Punjabi are alright.
Lets get down to what you should see Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal
for:
1) Good performances by John, Arshad and Boman. Dhan Dhana
Dhan Goal would not have been half the film without these guys carrying it on
their shoulders.
2) A good second half and an excellent climax.reminds a
bit of Chak De India but definitely is not a copy from any angle.
3) Superb dialogues.Anurag Kashyap should probably
concentrate on writing more dialogues like these rather than try to convince
people not to smoke.
4) Excellent cinematography by Atarsingh Saini.hes the
same chap who captured England
beautifully in Chocolate and does it yet again in this movie. The sequences on
the field without doubt are the best.
Now the flip side:
1) The songBillo seems forced into the
narrative.absolutely unnecessary.
2) The romantic angle between John-Bipasha couldve been
elaborated upon or completely left out. It looks a little half baked.
3) Boman Irani is an ex-footballer who has not played
football for 20 plus years. How the hell does Vivek(the director) expect viewers
to believe that after so many years of gap.Boman is still an unparalleled
coach? Add to that he is supremely unfit.
4) If Boman is indeed such a good coach why on earth did
Southall not approach him earlier? Why only after Dhariwal dies?
5) Johns change of heart in the pre-climax seems so filmy
and cliched.
*Good scenes:
1)** The one-on-one match between Boman and John in the rain
is outstanding. Its real fun to see John.who thinks hes the best footballer
around getting his kicked.
2) The sequences between John and Arshad are really cool.
On the whole Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal is a definite
recommendation for 3 kinds of people:
- Who think Chocolate(Vivek Agnihotris debut film) was a
good film.
- Who love nail-biting ends and thrilling climaxes.
- Who love John and Arshad.
