Dhol has no pretensions. ( may be superstitions it is spelt Dhol” & not Dhool as it should be)That is its strength. The formula is well established. A fight, a song, a tiff, a comedy scene, a touch of melodrama, a fight again..... But believe me it works. You may come out of the hall shaking your head that is more in appreciation that you have been duped into believing the unbelievable. The wafer thin plot is about a village youngster (?) taking up the cause of water pollution and solving it in the end. Dharani will find Dhol hard to beat. He has upped the ante Dhil, Dhol... what is he going to do next time?
Two scenes which may have easily been the downfall have contributed to the strength.
One is the scenes where Vikram spins a human top ... you should listen to the claps in the auditorium.
Second towards the climax the Patti singing Singam Pola Nadanthu varaan enthan peraandi Had the movie flopped more than one finger would have been raised at the director for trivialising a serious situation with a song.
Jyothikka for once fits the role- Mundakkannu Eswari. here again you see the directors touch making use of Jos bulging eyes to good use. Vidyasagar Barbie song notwithstanding has done a reasonable job. Vikram is engaging. Rayalaseema Sornam fits the bill. Her brother is more than adequate. There is not one dull moment till the end. A fully clad Shakeela also makes an appearance. Dharani has dared to throw stones from inside a glass house( read Reema Sen & Koina Mitra) This movie is true to Onions dictum It is more difficult to make a successful masalamovie than a slow moving art movie
