SPOILERS AHEAD>>
Making a sequel for your own film is not as formidable a task as matching up to a previous hit. So the Director Gadhvi had at best to concentrate on convincing the Producers for a colossal increase in BUDGET ALLOCATION to present a ’New and Improved version" .
Question is did the film then deliver?? the answer is a ( nodding head vigorously) YES!!!
Not being thoroughly impressed with the previous Dhoom , I had been non-ecstatic in my eagerness to see the film. But the very first scene with hrithik set the pace for the ride and from there on ..no looking back Sirreee..Thats not as if to say that the film did not have its dull patches, and uninspiringly shot scenes..but..what the hell..It was not meant to be a watching of ’Gladiator’..Bollywood is a different fare.
When you go for Chinese you dont expect Sushi d’ya?
Now this film can be reviewed only from two angles pre-dominantly..Action and performances.
Action was the best so far on Indain screens..Attributed to International stylists of course but nevertheless delivered and amlgamated wonderfully in the script.. The pitfall here is that the sequences dealing with the shots of robbery come out in sharp contrast to the rest of the film..Clearly the Director is not able to upgrade hiself left to his own devices.
The ’caper’ was interesting enough..not amazingly wonderful or anything but just right to keep you engaged. Of course the loopholes were far too many to go into..but then like I said..did not go in with any expectations. Dont go looking for a well thought out, thrashed screenplay and you are okay.
Now performances..
Have to begin with the Greek God..Hrithik Roshan..he has surpassed himself and has at last broken the jinx cast on him by his detractors that he is only as good as his father..His talent is unmistakable..For years to come there will not be another Hrithik. For the first half hour or so of the film he does not mouth a diaogue.. but you know what..nobody misses it..His expression, body language, and piercing eyes say it all..supremely well... Gosh ..Why is he married???:(
Aishwarya rai..Looks hot..and sadly there is where it ends..no fire within just a painted outside..But the onscreen presence of Ash and Hrithik is in my opinion the best star couple as yet...way ahead of sharukh Kajol..they look made for each other..down to the green eyes and svelte bodies..What a pair!! One wishes that the Director had worked on Ash’s performance..but then again Sanjay gadhvi is Not sanjay leela.. just the first names match ..thats all..SLB was the only ONE to have got out a tremendous Nandini from Ash in Hum dil de chuke..
Abhishek Bachchan..Did not the guy realise that he will be in the same frame with Hrithik and therefore he ought to spruce up both his act and his body?? Had he not been Amitabhs son and all that.. he was in for a major career let down..BUT one does not doubt his talent and potential..but please Aby Baby.. dont ever again work with Hrithik..or for that matter..only a suicide bomber would..hes lethal, in this avatar...gosh there I go again with the Hrithik raga..
Next is the prodigal son..Uday Chopra..author backed lines, punchy, funny and wholesome..delivered effortlessly.. end result..Good.
Bipasha basu.. As the double..Monali..was better .the sister act was ok and done totally for the benefit of Udays love angle with a hot babe.. but thats ok..after all its his Pops money..have a ball Uday ??
Choreography of Hrithiks first performance was by Shiamak..after Prabhudeva in laqshya, the best dance sequence by Hrithik..Awesome..Vaibhavi Merchant is as fresh as a week old pomfret..repetitive and smelling of jhatkas and matkas..nothing new.
What more can I say except..money well spent..referring to the producers and mine.
