It’s hot n cool, jazzy n snazzy, sizzling n drizzling. Sexy bodies, sexier dance – this is what makes DII a style statement. Following on its predecessor’s footsteps DII is sleek, techno and a class apart from its peers. In recent past, only Krrish had managed to bring techno jazz in stunts and cinematography in Indian cinema and DII is all set to mark a new milestone.
For starters, AB Jr and Uday Chopra are in the same avatar as DI – the first an ace ACP and the other an aspiring, clownish, street smart ‘punter’. They are ably aided by sexy sharpshooter Bips. Looming in the background is Rimi Sen, AB Jr’s heavily pregnant wife whose presence is fortunately limited to a few dialogues. Enter super-thief Roshan, who performs mind-blowing stunts and antics to steal priceless gems across the world. He is an international thief in more ways than one – in looks, style, attitude and of course dance.
Roshan has surpassed himself in his dance numbers in this movie. I believe there isn’t a single dancer to match his tempo and style in the industry today. He fits into the role of an impersonator with perfection. I won’t describe his escapades here as they have to be watched to be believed. His killer looks are enough to keep you glued to your seats for the entertaining three hours.
The plot takes a turn as he comes to Mumbai on his break-in mission. Super-mind AB Jr guesses his game but misses him by a hair’s breadth. He is about to fly away with the loot when he is stopped by the only eye-stopper of our times – Ms. Rai.
She comes out a real stunner with her new look. Shedding the image of traditional Indian beti and bahu, Ash is dynamite in the movie that is sure to enthrall you. Together with Roshan’s irresistible charm, they make a relishing pair. Their meeting is offset with the foot stumping number ‘Crazy kia re’ – my current favourite! Don’t get fazed with her clothes, she looks anything but vulgar. Clearly, short skirts were not invented for her but she carries them with an élan never seen before. Very much the way Roshan carries his style.
All this time AB Jr is hard on his heels along with Uday. Bips gets hurt and backs out of the mission and you see no more of the suave cop anymore. But that doesn’t mean you don’t see more of Bips anymore. Just before the interval comes the twist in the tale. Ash turns out to be a bug planted by AB Jr to catch the ever-elusive thief. Wonder why this never works with the real police!
The next robbery is scheduled in Brazil. The golden beaches and golden girls of Brazil are captured beautifully. Now walks in Bips twin sister Bips – gypsy like, affectionate, non-Hindi speaking and extremely sexy, especially in her bikinis. Both the leading ladies seem to have given the treadmill a hard time while shooting for this film. Uday is all set to fall for her, which he does.
Action begins once more as another robbery is masterminded. However, at a crucial turning point, Roshan discovers Ash’s betrayal and also her love. They do the inevitable, fall in love and ditch the police once again. After a DI like bike chase, both are captured. And then the unbelievable happens, Ash shoots Roshan and he falls off the cliff.
I guess I’ll stop here. The rest is for you to see or guess. If you are a hard core Hindi movie bluff, you would know what happens next. If Roshan is the cherry on the icing, then AB Jr is the icing itself. He plays it cool in his usual underhand, subtle way and hits the mark with his suavity. Bips part one and two score equal points. Uday is passable. Ash sizzles every time she appears on screen. But Roshan really rocks. This is the beginning of a new genre in Hindi movies. The plot however is the movie’s weakness as there is no plot really just the chase. But it’s worth it especially because of Roshan’s dance and the amazing stunts. (I liked the sand skiing of Roshan’s first robbery and the bike chase). Music is not exactly chart-bursting as some songs are a take-off from DI but will remain in public memory for some time and Crazy kia re is bound to be on dance floor for long.
And all you John Abraham fans, you are not going to miss him in this one. Now comes the USP of my review. I have seen this movie twice, yes, and its only three days it’s been released. I loved it the second time too although the shortcomings were more apparent. But this star-packed chase is worth your money… so go for it!
