Dance numbers rule in Dhoom2

Pritam Charaborthy the ad jinglemaster turned music director with sting of hits this year from Gangster, Ankahee to the recent Woh Lamhe. He is the next big thing for the remaining twomonths of this year. Dhoom:2 (Back in action) is suppose to be a great album tolive up to the previous Dhoom’s music which made Pritam famous overnight as amusic director but lets scrutinize the music.

Thecover has five great looking actors with some previous dhoom’s actors missingbut new exciting faces. Everyone is looking red hot but the film has the neededcool feel about it. With one free Yash Raj latest film songs collection thisalbum is worth the money you pay for. The first look of Dhoom2 looks slick andHrithik stands out amongs the actors while Ash looks stunning amongst theactress duo.

Thealbum starts off with “Crazy Kiya Re”sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. The music holds a urban feel with fine use of Indianinstruments. Sameer as usual is able to mix up the English lyrics withthe hindi words. A danceable track that gives you the flavor of regular dance numberby Pritam. The use of electric guitar and table in the middle it has the fusiontouch as well. Then we have “Touch Me”again a English title for a hindi song. A number with fast beats gives you thesense of Arabic number mixed with Latin guitar and some Indian masala. Thepercussive instruments hit your very well in this song. Sung by KK and AlishaChinoi, this song despite of the unneeded English words is very clubby. Subsequentlywe get to listen to Sonu Nigam and Bipasa Basu (just utters four words what, says who and cool) in the song “My Nameis Ali”. The singer portrays hisvocal skills competently with this hard song trying to impress a girl. It seemslike dilbara part 2 on the first listen but the Goa-n feel in the middle withuse of guitar is something different tried by Pritam. Lyrics are formidable, the instrumentation could have been made better.

Attrack 4 we have “Dil Laga Na”, thetrack kicks off with a Punjabi bhangra feel. Sung by Sukhbir, SohamChakrabarthy, Jolly Mukherjee, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Suzzane the lyrics of this numberis carefully written. Again Sameer puts lots of English in the lyrics why? Godknows. Singers are able to perform at their level best, the instrumentationwith classical instruments and synthetic music is startling. Against the lyricsthe song still has the dancing urge to it. Then we have a remix by Bunty Rajputof the first track “Crazy Remix”well named. Mr. Rajput relies on the standard 4/4 beats to remix the songs withaverage beat matching but groovy music selection. The rap in the songs givesthe remix a RnB feel. As regular remixes it has nothing new but is fullydanceable. Last but not the least we come across “Dhoom 2 Title” , the track whose snippet you have heard in thepromo. The whistle, cool percussive instruments and horns give a new dimensionto the song. The lyric of this song is written by Asif Ali Baig, I cannotunderstand why is the lyric all in English. The grooving melody of the originaltitle has been kept intact but the new instrumentation has increased tempo andincreased power and punch than the older one. Vishal Dadlani & DominiqueCerejo have sung the title track exceptionally but I again have problem withthe English lyric. All in all the song is a good one to tap your feet to as theprevious one.

Onthe whole, the album is one that you should run and pick up. If you are a partyanimal this is a must have almost all the tracks have the clubby feel and youcan dance to it with ease. If you liked Pritam’s older albums includingDhoom and don’t buy this compilation then you are missing something.
