3 2 1... VROOOOM

Kabse tha humko tera intezaar,

Flops ne bollywood ko kiya hai bekaar,

Yash raj ka banner aaya is baar,

DHOOM machane ho hai tayyar!

After a long long wait.. a movie has come to rock the 2004. Surprisingly, this Yash Raj movie doesn’t have big starcast (read SRK) nor it is hyped up as other movies under same banner. From the promos, I felt its another run-of-the-mill with immature actors and chamak-damak without any content. But, I am happy, it proved me wrong.

STAR CAST

Sanjay Gadhvi : Director Saab

Aditya Chopra : Producer Saab

Abhi-shake bacha-an : Jai (The Smart )

John Abraham : Kabir (The Impossible)

Uday Chopra : Ali (The Fast )

Rimii Sen : Sweety (Hot n Sizzling)

Esha Deol : Shina (Black Cat)

Other dudes with Kabir : Thieves (The Gang)

STORY

This movie starts with a bang.... with the catchy DHOOM signature tune…4 looterey (Thieves) riding their Suzuki-GSX-R...doing the great robbery. With exceptionally well soundtrack and picturisation …movie catches your attention from the first scene.

To add lill bit of spice n hotness, there is a raunchy number by Rimii Sen and Abhishek Bachchan.

ACP Jai Dixit takes the charge of the case. Search starts for the thieves. Obvious doubt goes to Ali.. Ace rider of sports bike. Zoooooom comes Bike racing….. Ali falls for Esha Deol in the movie, but doesn’t know who is she.

Jai realize later that Ali isn’t one of them. The Gang is very smart and fast. Its virtually impossible to catch them on 1950’s police khataras. So, they outsource the job to Ali.

The Gang challenges Jai that they’ll tell police bout their next mission in advance. Still, police won’t be able to catch them…what say challenge accepted?

How successful Ali does his job? Is he really helping Police? Who is Esha Deol, What role is she playing in movie? Does Jai catch the gang?

Watch the movie to know the answers. It is followed by futile traps laid by police, Action, Plans – strategy, Bike chasing and lots more.

PERFORMANCE

Abhishek : He is shown as a smart, brave and intelligent cop. He is very daring and determined to catch the gang of Riders. After YUVA, one can see the mature Abhishek. It will be wrong on our part to compare him with Big B, but one can see shades of Big B in him that he has got in legacy. Especially scene of bar will remind you of Big B. Probably after some more movies, he can come up with the lines of Ajay Devgan and Akshay Kumar. He should be careful in accepting the roles. Side roles of PHIR MILENGE, HUM TUM might make him another sidey of bollywood.

Uday Chopra : His role is a comical one and he fits very well in it.

He looks good as a rider, riding his Suzuki Bandit. But all the roles he has done till now are more or less like that only…A cheerful and carefree guy enjoying every mood of life.

He has been admired in all the movies but he doesn’t leave lasting impression in any of them except Mohabbatein.

John Abraham : Superb performance by this handsome hulk. He rides Suzuki Hyabusa in movie. His role was of a determined leader, who dares to dream impossible and perfectly executes his plan. His role was very strong, much stronger than that of Abhishek Bachan. He has leveraged upon his muscles and looks. And he has done good justice to his role. All the Paaps he has done in Jism, Saaya and Paap will be certainly washed away.

Rimii Sen : This Bengali beauty is wife of Abhishek in movie. She got viewers attention in Hungama itself. Although, movie was a flop.. but got her in limelight.

Her role is for only a few minutes in movie, rather a show piece… But this showpiece, literally steals the show.

Esha Deol : She is the only misfit in her role. This role was alike done by Zeenat Aman in umpteenth movies as The-Gal-of-Don (Big B). It required a glamorous role, which Bipashu Basu would have done much better. Dhoom number done by Esha could have been done by Tata Young only. No hard feelings.. but Esha should accept that she doesn’t look gorgeous. So, better choose roles sensibly.

POST-MORTEM

This movie is certainly different from other chor-police movie. Although 2nd half is a copy of OCEANS ELEVEN but still its worth watching. Janasheen also had Bike-racing, but nothing can compare picturization of DHOOM. Especially the scene where Ali and Jai chases Kabir is mind boggling!

I am sure, DHOOM signature tune is going to be the hottest ringtone . Sound track is also very catchy. This movie will target all the teenagers who love action. Anyone who liked FAST N FURIOUS will surely like this one too.

Excellent direction done by Sanjay Gadhvi. One doesn’t feel drag anywhere in movie. All the actors / actresses gave performance beyond expectation. Fortunately, there wasn’t any jester (read Johnny Lever ) for humor. Uday Chopra brings smile on our face many times with his light hearted and “Vegetarian” comedy. Nothing looks exaggerated in movie except last scene of Boat chasing Truck.

WARNING : Some climax scenes revealed ahead. Continue reading at your own risk..

Scenes I liked:

1>Fight between Kabir and Jai on Trailer

2>Ali + Jai chasing Kabir on bike.

3>Successful loot at CM relief fund.

4>Closing ceremony by Tata Young

Scenes I disliked:

1>Fight of Jai-Ali. Everybody knew the so-called-suspense of Ali. A shrewd guy like Kabir can not do such a mistake.

2>Boat on Road!!!! Puhleeez noooo

3>A strong character like Kabir can’t be defeated so easily in the end. He should have escaped in the end like OCEANS ELEVEN. I agree that in bollywood “Satyamev Jayete” is essential, Otherwise human rights guys would come to protest. But an open ending like AANKHEIN would have been perfect.

My ending would have been like this...Kabir jumps from the cliff along with his Suzuki-Hyabusa. He holds the money bag in his hands (which was kept on bike in front). His parachute opens mid-way…and he safely lands on the boat/steamer waiting for him. Then he gives a side ways glance to Jai expressing “better luck next time”.

Well…. it might sound too filmy, but then it would have been certainly a better ending. What say????
