Truthfully, we didnt go to the theater to watch this movie. We went to watch Phir Milenge. Didnt get tickets to it, so we settled down for the movie released just a couple of days before...Dhoom. Abhishek Bachan and of course John were the things that convinced us that we should be watching it... Atleast if its crappy we can drool over them :)
Missed first 5 minutes of the movie in our attempt to grab popcorn and iced tea, and we were sure that we wouldnt miss much. And what we almost missed was the hep and happening song of shikdum... Well shreya ghosal sure is versatile the way she sings Shikdum... (Dont miss it!!!)
Let me come directly to the review... Here we were in for surprises after surprises... What we were drooling in the end was not abhishek but the extremely slick bikes..
Johnny is the head of a gang thieves whose modus operandi is looting a place and escaping on bikes. Abi the cop who is on their trail. Unfortunately our darling cop canot drive even a scooty. Uday a small time crook who is hazaar despo to find a lady love. And yes he is an ace biker too participating in the local races. Abi and Uday team up to nab the gang.
Despite their many attempts to catch John and his 4 team members, Abhishek and Uday fail because the theives are too quick even for uday. And they have wonderful super bikes which evidently were flicked while the bikes were being transported.
The bike race scenes are very well shot and are quite delectable.
There is a tiff b/w Uday and Abi. Uday joins johnnys team... What happens next is the climax of the story. So The cop decides to use his brain and catch the theives red handed during their next major loot. What follows is a la Oceans 11 casino scene.
It is the same old story with new twist turns and ofcourse cast. It has nothing memorable in the plot nor in the dialogues. The comedy part has been well executed. The audience does laugh for most of the jokes :).
We have to come to this movie with our brain deposited outside. And if u are in the mood to watch real masala movie then here it is. And the good cinematography and the good music (though evidently flicked) that keeps our pulses going.
About the cast
a) Abhishek Bachan: Biased I will be to him. He surely is the best in the film. Cop role suits him well. Quite a talented actor has finally found his first hit.
b) John Abraham: Carries off the villian character well. Extremely likeable negative character. :) Though he plays the typical John. Its high time that he tries something new
c) Uday Chopra: Surprisingly good. He actually tickles ur funny bones in many scenes... Esp in the ones that he imagines every girl who talks to him as his bahu in a wedding dress :)
d) Rimi Sen: Hot and sexy, this bengal girl sure looks good. Plays the char of Abis wife. Her acting talents were laid to rest. She comes in a couple of scenes. Sometimes I wonder as to which girls really dress so much to be at home?
e)Esha deol: I dont even want to comment about her. Looks Pathetic. No role.. I wonder why she was there... Only for the dhoom machale dance. Without her, the film would have been better.
f) Bikes: Surely we can find Dhoom clones whizzing past us in the city by now. These bikes have become a rage overnight. Surely we can expect more and more films to be made where not benz but beauties from honda and suzukis are the attractions.
Music
The highlight of this film is the music. There are 5 main songs
Dhoom machale: Sunidhi Chauhan
Shikdum : Shreya Ghoshal
Salame : Vasundhra das and Shaan
Dilbura : Abhijeet
Dhoom machale: Tata Young
Surely the highlight was the Tata Young bit. All the other songs are refreshing and are really good to listen. The BGM of the film is really good, So is the sound re recording. It is out of the theatres now, But in case u get the chance then do watch this movie.
After a long long time I have seen a movie that we come out glad that we went in, Doesnt have senti dialogues, totally crappy but extremely stylish.
