Dhoop, Searing Reality

A Young Man dies in the Kargil war. The only son of his parents who are shocked and devastated by his death.

A petrol pump is allotted by the Government and the story focuses on the struggle against the corrupt system by the bereaved Parents to build the Petrol Pump as a memorial to their son and other martyrs.

The Screenplay is a fictionalized account of a true-life story and is fairly well written. The dialogues are relevant and fairly hard hitting.

The Movie overall is well crafted … and holds your interest, only due to the story of all prevalent corruption in our Society today.

It could have been better made. The pace of the movie is a bit slow.

The way the parents struggle and overcome corruption is well brought out.

The sudden transformation from a normal happy family to the bereaved parents is also very well brought out.

On the acting side Revathi as the mother is simply outstanding. The way she conveys pain, helplessness and so many emotions through her eyes is simply superb.

Om Puri is equally good as the bereaved father who is determined to build the petrol pump as memorial to his son. The way he conveys his pain and sense of loss and equally his pride in his son, is outstanding. The rest of the cast is adequate.

The movie makes you think and is meant for serious viewing. The all prevalent corruption in our society which does not even recognize the sacrifice made by our Soldiers and martyr makes us wonder where are we heading.

Corruption today has become so ingrained that we think nothing of bribing our way through every situation. While we condemn the scams and politicians over all the stories that make the news we think nothing of bribing the traffic cop who has caught us for a minor offence or paying a little extra for that Railway reservation we want.
