HONEY, WHERE ARE THE BANDAIDS?

You gotta love her! Not only is she an attractive blue-eyed blonde, but she has the voice of an angel and a fantastic, wild and crazy sense of humor. First of all, she writes or co-writes most of her own material. But even when the song she sings hasn’t been written by her, she makes it her own by putting her own special touches on each one.

For instance, although this one wasn’t written by Carter, she sings it in such a way, that causes us to reflect on our own past - to look back and remember our own first loves. STRAWBERRY WINE He was working through college on my grandpa’s farm, I was thirsting for knowledge and he had a car. I was caught somewhere between a woman and a child, When one restless summer we found love growing wild, On the banks of the river on a well beaten path - Funny how those memories they last Like strawberry wine and seventeen. The hot July moon saw everything. My first taste of love, Oh bittersweet. Green on the vine, Like strawberry wine. Oh! How we do recall our first loves! I remember mine. Do you? Another favorite of mine that she didn’t write but sings to a fault is one that stirs up those old ’’let’s hold on’’ memories. ’’Let’s hold and and try and make it work’’ this time memories. ’’Let’s get things back to when we were happy’’ memories. WE DANCED ANYWAY The summer air was heavy and sweet. You and I on a crowded street, there was music everywhere. I can see us there, In a happy little foreign town Where the stars hung upside down. A half a world away, far far away. I remember you were laughing - We were so in love - WE were so in love, And the band played songs we’d never heard But we danced anyway. We never understood the words, We just sand, Oh la la la la la la la la la la Oh, and we danced anyway. They say you can’t go back. Baby, I don’t believe that. Come along with me, come dance with me. Maybe if I hold you close Baby we could just let go Of these things that tie us down We’ll come back around. Do you remember - we were laughing? We were so in love - so in love And the bank played songs we’d never heard, But we danced anyway. We never understood the words. We just sang Oh la la la la la la la la la la Oh, we danced anyway. Oh, yes, we danced. We danced long after the music stopped. We danced until there were no more steps to take. Oh, we were so in love. Yep! Carter, tugged at my heart with this one. In one of her own songs, she brings out the hesitation and caution we all feel when facing a new relationship. Is this just another shot in the dark? Can I trust him? Do I let my guard down? COUNT ME IN Could there be a different ending To the same old story, Cause you’re not the first to say You’re gonna be there for me. I need to know what’s in your heart. Can you finish what you start? How can I be sure I won’t be sorry? If heartaches and tears and shadows of doubt Are part of the deal, you can count me out. But if you’re talking about a game I can win, You can count me in. How many of us go through a shaky start-over like this? Then of course, there’s the title of this CD. Deana Carter wouldn’t be Deana Carter if she couldn’t show off her sense of humor. She does that with this wild and crazy song she co-wrote with Rhonda Hart. Not only does this song epitomize how we women feel after years of marriage and kids, but it does it with humor, style and a bit of true-ism.

DID I SHAVE MY LEGS FOR THIS? Flowers and wine is what I expected to find When I came home from working tonight. Well now here I stand, over this frying pan And you want a cold one again. I bought these new heels, did my nails, Had my hair done just right. I thought this new dress was a sure bet For romance tonight! Well it’s perfectly clear, between the TV and beer I won’t get so much as a kiss, As I head for the door, I turn around to be sure - Did I shave my legs for this? Now when we first met, you promised you’d get A house on a hill with a pool. Well this trailer stays wet and we’re swimmin’ in debt, And you want me to go back to school. I bought these new heels, did my nails Had my hair done just right. I thought this new dress was a sure bet For romance tonight. Well it’s perfectly clear between the TV and beer I won’t get so much as a kiss. As I head for the door, I turn around to be sure - Did I shave my legs for this? And who says romance is dead? maybe he just forgot our anniversary. As I said, this CD is a treasure to own and a pleasure to hear. When you listen to her sings, you find yourself nodding in agreement, ’’Yep, that’s what happened’’, ’’Um humf! Yeah, I did that’’, ’’yeah, I stood in front of the TV naked and he didn’t notice’’. Ms. Carter certainly has the gift for knowing a good song and turning it into a great one. Deana Carter is one of my favorite singers and she certainly knows how to put all the right songs together for one excellent CD. But then, that’s my opinion. You can listen for yourself. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
