The names bland, James Bland !

Aka: Bond masala in action curry.

Rating: Timepass 1/2

Plot: Despite the risk of further criticism and the fact that every friend I recommended this movie to, thought I’ve lost my cinematic sensibility; I stick to my position that this movie is eminently watch able.

DAD is better looking than most of the 19 earlier Bond flicks and director Lee Tamahori has taken the characteristic Bond flick bizarrity to new cutting edge levels.

Side Plot: It isn’t easy to explain, as the plot is as illogical as you can ever expect a 007 movie to be. It’s surreal with a capital S as anything can happen, except the fact that our super stud can never die, be it another day or another night.

But in a marked deviation from earlier operational practices, the invincible spy not only gets captured, but is also held captive and tortured for 14 months in a Korean camp. The title credits depict his life in captivity in a brilliant ice, fire and smoke sequence. He gets out of captivity of course through an exchange offer and forcibly gets back on the job.

Utterly enslaved by the habit, the super agent (Pierce Brosnan) will save the world yet again, this time from some crazy Koreans (actual inhabitants of North Korea however are not very pleased with this depiction).

Zao (Rick Yune) the Korean villain is the rich son of a General, who doesn’t sleep, gets a DNA transplant done and then comes up with a second sun in space, that has the capability to target and melt everything in its path.

Besides this mad maniac, Bond has to handle three women within a duration of 2 hours and 12 minutes- the hot agent Jinx (Halle Berry), yet another hottie Miranda Frost (Rosamund Pike) and M (Judi Dench) the woman on top in his agency.

Mr. Brosnan continues to ably spearhead the cause of the man with the license to kill and thrill. After the swimsuit sequence, Halle Berry is a terrible disappointment as the other woman- Rosamund Pike looks and even acts much better than her.

Whistle when: Super man Bond shows why he has far more panache than the XXXs of the world when it comes to-- surfboarding action, driving Aston Martins and hovercrafts, racing ice karts, fencing duels, passion with a purpose, etc.

Go to the loo when: His car does a Mr. India and has the refractive ability to become invisible.

The sexual innuendo tipped Bond one-liners have progressively gone from bad to verse to worst.

Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Toby Stephens, Rosamund Pike, Judi Dench, Rich Yune, and Kenneth Tsang.

Director: Lee Tamahori
