In the past a magazine known as CHIP became quite popular. It had content that was quite innovative, informative and presented in a pleasing manner. As time progressed CHIP evolved and grew up into Digit which turned has out to be nothing but a damp squib.
I was completely addicted to CHIP and when the change occurred (along with the editor, etc) , I was looking forward to some more innovation. Unfortunately, I did not get what I was expecting.
The first and foremost change you see is in the content. Previously, the magazine was more informative and projected a neutral image. The current content is more with a marketing viewpoint rather than technical. The number of pages for advertisements have increased considerably, in a way reducing the informative content. Again the focus has also shifted into commercial aspects of the various technologies rather than the technical aspects. I do not remember any articles that I have read nor do I found them worth remembering, but I can recollect a number of articles from the previous issues (that is CHIP), such as the full fledged comparison between Intels Coppermine and AMDs Athlon processor. Though there are still such comparisons made (I saw one one the cover page of the recent issue of Digit) but what I have observed is that the quality of information content has reduced considerably.
On the whole, this magazine is quite good for a layman, since their focus is more on the broader view, but the technically inclined people will be disheartened.
For the technically inclined, I can suggest one gives a thought to Developers IQ, which provides a more in depth study of the various technologies available.
