Digging IT out (Digit)

In a techno-savvy generation like ours where the satellite channels beam the most scintillating of gadgets as part of their top notch commercial fare & the average urban kid swears by the likes of Ethan Hunt a la MI2 packing information into the trendiest of ZIP drives, it’s high time we had a magazine churning out the latest IT recipes.

Voila, There appears the Savoir faire a la CHIP rechristened Digit.

I have been a subscriber of DIGIT since my early engineering days. Hence, I suppose it must be celebrating it’s 5th anniversary with me. Ever since it’s inception, it’s always lived up to the expectations of it’s readers & ardent admirers all alike. Replete with the latest information on the new gadgets i.e., Computers, peripherals, and softwares alongwith comprehensive overview of the various system level functionalities which is bound to appeal to the students, researchers, businessmen & even the lay man who still doesn’t have any clue as to why isn’t there any CAT in a computer, Only MOUSE that too sans a tail.

When you subscribe to Digit or CHIP (For those who have cancelled their subscriptions prior to the NEW NAMKARAN ceremony), you get the following, (Gaurav Jaiswal w’d be beaming...erstwhile editor of Digit):

  • A Free CD full of enchanting softwares, games, e-papers et al

  • Insight into the latest in the Digital technology (Pictures, text & reviews)

  • Comparison of the various products in terms of performance, price, efficiency, capability etc N.B Digit is known to implement state of the art benchmark techniques to assess the performance courtesy JASUBHAI Media Inc...

  • Numerous discount coupons & entry into the exclusive Digit CLUB

  • Discounts when you opt for a 2yr/3yr subscription period along with free gifts.

Now a question may arise ’’ why not dataquest, PCquest, ComputersToday’’???

I w’d no way like to take the sheen off the other magazines which also incorporate excellent stuff into their magazines & harbour impeccable marketing strategies. After all, they are also putting their best efforts to make the common man get IT into his grey cells. It’s upto the judgement of the people to throng the place of their choice. But I’d certainly give the members of the digit a HIGH FIVE just because they put IT together so neatly & so immaculately. The quality of paper is excellent & I won’t have any qualms in giving 9/10 to the editorial team for using fantastic english devoid of any kind of apparent flaws.

There’s a section called tips/tricks where they evince various techniques that if used would fine tune the application, e.g., shortcut keys, cheatcodes.

For the Kids, we have excellent gaming stuff on the prowl. where else can you find Unreal Tournament sharing the pedestal with the likes of ILM (Industrial Light and Magic)George Lucas’s STARWARS battlefield and WIndows XP spliced between Encarta & Brian Lara Cricket especially when the ICC WC is starting from tomorrow.

There’s a section called BackBytes where the readers are requested to send funny snippets/pictures/cliparts concerned with the digital arena.

For the more sterner kinds, they come up with articles on real time processing (QNX), Virtual reality based simulations cluttered with eye-popping visuals and many more hardcore software scenarios.

Hence, I conclude that Digit aims high at making one and all familiar with the kaliedoscopic facets of the Digital world, In Other words, Digit is Digging IT Out
