This is another classic that serves as an escape from the tortorous movies that are released nowadays. The plot has already been discussed in detail in one of the other reviews so I wont get into it.
Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai...if for nothing else it is known to almost anyone remotely familiar with Hindi cinema for the song (or even the tunes of) Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh...one of the ever gold yesteryear classics. Meenakumari (who I must say I am not very fond of) and Raj Kumar do an excellent job and share amazing screen chemistry---I had to keep reminding myself they were not a duo in real-life.
While Nadira is a bit over the top with her rich spoiled attitude the rest are good...and the hospital scenes with Om Prakash and the other patients serve as good comic relief from the otherwise serious plot.
Very realistic...and very simple...and amazingly the central character who is shown as a doctor---surgeon actually does go to the hospital and work contrary to usual Hindi film docs who hardly have to go the hospital and can be at home at any and all times to sing songs with their ladylove and be the good beta and pati and hubby. A must watch for those who are big on oldies.
And for anyone planning to watch this...one scene in particular to watch out for that I love is the one where Raj Kumar and Meenakumari have to go help out at an accident scene and are forced to the spend the night there with Raj Kumar sleeping outside in the rain and Meenakumari inside...amazingly portrayed...nothing said or done and yet so many emotions aroused.
