Dil bole What the ??

Dil Bole Hadippa – yes it does, but the reason was not the movie but Shahid Kapoor. I am die hard fan of Kapoor and cant resist his charm. So I practically curl up before the TV as long as it has got Shahid in it. Dil Bole Hadippa started with the vibrant backdrop of Punjab and the energy of the village going to tell you a story about a beautiful village girl Veera who wants to be a cricketer. She hasd always loved this dream of hers. When a cricket team selection comes to her town, she has her hopes up although her sex comes in between her dream and herself. Determined to reach for the stars, she dresses up as a Punjabi boy and gets into the team. The story goes on to the Indo – Pak match and further twists in the story.

Now don’t get me wrong. But the only thing my dil “bol”led after the three hour movie wad “Duh!” I am not someone who usually like negative reviews and this isn’t to be taken as one. I mean I did not hate or despise this movie.... but there is nothing special about this movie that would make me give a high rating to it. I have heard a lot of good reviews and I know it is all true. The movie is taken vibrantly and the theme is quite good. Its true that sometimes women cannot achieve the dream of being a cricketer.

But the movie was extremely predictable. I mean , not in a normal predictable way. A person who sees the first fifteen minutes of the movie would be able to chart out the rest of the story exactly as it is. You would even know how the story would end. And I hated the ending. It was the perfect masala out of the world ending Hindi movies are used to. Bollywood movies always do that. Screw up in th end. There is no twist that you don’t suspect nothing that is a surprise.... you feel as if youre watching a remake of an old movie... something like “Never been Kissed” or other few thrown in together. A lot of movies have overused this love story and the cricket game would feel like a mere prop in the movie and it even dragged at times.

But I should say that the direction and the script was excellent. It did make me laugh quite a bit. Shahid Kapoor was mindblowing.... Applause to the way that he adapts to a character.... I haven’t seen anyone so versatile on screen. Rani Mukerjee with her new figure look so young and she can easily pass off as a boy.She handles the role well and is perfect and she is one of the best actresses Bollywood has got. I even like Rakhi Sawant.

The music was okay. For God sake , the song “Ishq hi rab hai” was exactly like “Yeh Desh hai mera” from Veer Zaara... it sounded alike and was even shot the same although it did not come close to that song. The music was a huge let down for me.

Verdict: The cast is brilliant. Its good if you are used to mindless watching.Dont expect much of it and do not go to the theatre for this. The comedy is nice, the script is good. Watching Rani is a treat.... So go ahead if you get a DVD .... watch it.... otherwise not worth it.
