Over a year since this delight of a movie was released. But good wine only matures with age. So no harm in revisiting this landmark of a movie. I have been ranting and raving about its technical brilliance, wonderful screenplay, tight editing, outstanding performances, memorable music score and contemporary theme. But it is the first time that I ventured to put it down on paper as I have joined MS just a month ago. What more compliment can I give to a movie which has swept the viewers off their feet without any pre-release hype and hoopla which normally is the standard today for movies that promise a lot but deliver little (K3G, Shakthi are examples)? Every relative/friend who has seen this movie has only comment to make...It reminds me of my own college days..... Now if a movie can invoke such nostalgic reactions irrespective of the age of its viewers it has be something exceptional. It was the first Hindi Movie that my wife and I sat through without taking a single break despite watching it in the comforts of our home. The movie just flows through seamlessly and we were in rapture right from the first scene at the hospital to the last fading shots of the happily reunited friends and their spouses. Not a scene seemed out of place, not a song was wasted, not a word spoken was useless. The maturity of the theme, the deft handling of the cast, the effortless use of natural and spontaneous humor speaks of a director with tremendous experience and not of somebody who has just debuted with this film.
My 6 yr and 2 yr old daughters are avid fans of this movie both for its light hearted moments as well as its fabulous and feet tapping music. No day passes by without the two of them swinging to the pulsating beat of Koi Kahe or to the soul-searching Kaisi hai ye ruth.
This gem of a movie occupies the pride of place in our limited collection of hindi movies at home and is the favored tool for enthralling our 2yr old into submission whenever we wish to feed her daily meal.
After watching this movie, my opinion of Hindi movies took an upward swing on the opinion graph. It has set a benchmark that will be difficult to match if the efforts in the year thereafter till date are any indication.
Hats off to the Akthars, Aamir, Akshay, Saif, Preity, Dimple, Shankar & team. Waiting for an encore!
