Cult Classic

A film like ’’Dil Chahta Hai’’ is not made everyday.

The film is frothy, young and very upmarket.

The cable channel showed the film and I saw it for the nth time.

Yet it was very watchable and I thought of penning down my thoughts.

DCH is Farhan Akhtar’s directorial venture and it has turned out to be a gem.

The film revolves around the friendship of Aakash(Aamir Khan), Sameer(Saif Ali Khan) and Siddharth or Sid to his friends( Akshaye Khanna).

What DCH has been able to capture best is the essence of friendship and love.

The roles potrayed by the three lead players was not easy to relate but I believe that most of my Mouth shut friends can see part of themselves in these characters.

Aakash is the bubbly type and naughty type. Sameer is very easy to relate.

Sid is the sober and more mature of the two.

His character is the most complex of the three.

His relation with the much older Dimple Kapadia is also subtle.

The sub plots and the scene where Aakash bends down on his knees to propose to Preity Zinta on her engagement is superb.

Preity Zinta is good in her role.

The soundtrack is outstanding. Shankar-Ehsan -Loy scored a beautiful soundtrack for this film.

The song ’’Koi kahe kehta Rahe’’ is still fresh in the party and college circuits.

What makes DCH so special is that you and I can relate to the characters and feel that what we see on the screen is a part of us and our friend circle.

Frankly even after seeing the film so many times I have failed to spot a major flaw.

A very strong recommendation for anyone who has missed a CULT CLASSIC.
